MLB DFS Value Plays April 21: Top DraftKings & FanDuel Picks
Tonight’s MLB DFS main slate is an 12-gamer on both DraftKings and FanDuel that starts at 7:05 pm ET, excluding a few games that start earlier in the day. We do not have Coors Field on the slate, so you don’t have to worry about keeping that in mind when setting lineups. Starting pitching is headlined by Shohei Ohtani, Freddy Peralta, and Aaron Nola. An unfortunate thing about this slate is that it currently appears that we have two mlb weather concerns, so make sure to check the weather before setting lineups. Let’s dive into some of my favorite value options of the day and some we can fit into our cash and tournament lineups!
MLB DFS Value Pitchers
Jon Gray, Texas Rangers (DraftKings: $9,100 / FanDuel: $8,800)
Gray left his last start early after being hit by a comebacker, but he is good to go today it appears and shouldn’t have any limitations. He has pitched well this year with a 3.21 ERA and 13 strikeouts across 14 innings of work. He scored 20.7 and 15.4 dk points in the two starts that he wasn’t forced to leave by an injury. Today he takes on a weak Oakland A’s lineup.
Seth Lugo, San Diego Padres (DraftKings: $8,500)
Lugo struggled in his last start against the Brewers, but overall he has been great this year. He has a 2.70 ERA, 2-0 record, and 17 strikeouts across 16.2 innings of work. He has scored north of 20 dk points in two of his three starts thus far and has a strong lineup backing him that now has Fernando Tatis Jr. in it. The Dbacks aren’t quite the easy matchup they used to be though, so there is risk here.
MLB DFS Value Hitters
Jose Caballero, 2B, Seattle Mariners (DraftKings: $2,000 / FanDuel: $2,000)
Caballero is the minimum price and he is just 1-8 to begin his MLB career, but I think he is worth a shot on today’s slate. He was off to a hot start at AAA, hitting .333 with two home runs and five steals across his first 10 games. Steven Matz has been awful through three starts with a 6.48 ERA and 1.80 WHIP. Righties have an insane .386/.446/.597 slash line against him through 65 plate appearances.
Brett Baty, 3B, New York Mets (DraftKings: $2,200 / FanDuel: $2,400)
Baty hasn’t come out of the gates scorching hot since being recalled, but he is just simply too good to be priced where he is. The kid is talented and Anthony DeSclafani isn’t anything special, despite the strong start to the year. Lefties have slashed .275/.334/.477 against DeSclafani in his career with 76 bombs in 1672 at-bats, compared to the .241/.283/.369 line that righties have produced with just 45 home runs in 1626 at-bats.
Jesse Winker, OF, Milwaukee Brewers (DraftKings: $3,100 / FanDuel: $2,900)
Winker is still searching for his first home run in a Brewers uniform, but he hasn’t been bad thus far, hitting .270 with nine RBI across 11 games. Today he faces Nick Pivetta and lefties have had more success against him thus far this season with an .863 OPS, compared to the .681 OPS that righties have managed to produce.
Jarren Duran, OF, Boston Red Sox (DraftKings: $2,600 / FanDuel: $2,900)
Duran has a tough matchup against Freddy Peralta, but Duran has looked great since being recalled. He has a double in every game and has scored 12, 10, 9, and 13 dk points through four games. He has some pop and speed and is extremely cheap. He will likely be a little less rostered tonight, simply because of the matchup, but it won’t take much for this hot bat to pay off the price tag.
