With today featuring the first game of the 2022 NFL season, at least a couple of days of the week, we can start pairing our favorite MLB player props on Underdog Fantasy with some of our favorite NFL player props, too! What a time to be alive! When looking at the board of MLB player props for this fine Thursday, some aces stuck out to me, namely Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes against San Francisco, and Chicago’s Dylan Cease against Oakland. However, it’s not all pitching today, as AJ Pollock faces a southpaw, and simply put, the only things we know in life for a fact are death, taxes, and Pollock crushes southpaws. Here are my favorite player props of the day over on Underdog Fantasy for Thursday, September 8.

Corbin Burnes - OVER 7 Strikeouts

This is a pure gut call. This just feels like a “get-right” opportunity for Burnes, as he has a 5.79 ERA in his last five starts, and has failed to strike out more than six batters in any of those five outings. However, when looking at the board today, I kept coming back to this one, over and over again. Burnes has a 12.18 K/9 and 33.5 percent strikeout rate at home this season, and many of the San Francisco regulars have putrid BvP numbers against him.

The Giants have the seventh-highest strikeout rate over the last two weeks against right-handed pitching and the ninth-highest over the last 30 days. In two starts this year against the Giants, he’s notched 10 and 11 strikeouts, and dating back to last year, he has nine or more strikeouts in three of his four starts against this team. The recent production may point to the under, but something in my gut is telling me Burnes bounces back in a big way against San Francisco this afternoon.

AJ Pollock OVER 1.5 Total Bases

Death, taxes, and AJ Pollock against left-handed pitchers. He’s hitting .286 with a .984 OPS and .378 ISO against southpaws here in 2022. Beyond that, he’s hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, posting a .568 SLG during that span. JP Sears has been quite good for Oakland, I’ll give him that, but he doesn’t miss a ton of bats, and if his pitch finds Pollock’s bat, the results haven’t favored the pitcher in that scenario.
