Matt Waldron Sleeper MLB Pick: More Than 17.5 Outs

We need six innings of work from Waldron here tonight against the Mets for him to finish with more than 17.5 outs, which is something he has done in three straight starts against the Diamondbacks, Angels and Marlins. The knuckleballer is having a breakout season for the Padres, posting a 3.76 ERA over 13 starts. 

This is all with a 3.31 xERA and a 3.26 FIP, which would suggest he is pitching slightly better than his overall results would indicate. The Mets have been a middle-of-the-road offense against right-handed pitching this season and while they haven’t faced a knuckleballer yet, I’d imagine we see Waldron continue his success here today.

Luis Robert Sleeper MLB Pick: More Than 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Robert has five homers in the nine games since returning to the White Sox lineup and today, he faces Diamondbacks righty Ryne Nelson. Nelson has been getting smoked by right-handed hitters this season, allowing a .406 average, .462 wOBA and a .624 slugging percentage.

With the White Sox offense right now full of right-handed hitters, I’m looking for Luis Robert to stay hot here at the dish with opportunities to drive in runs.

 

 

 

Chris Sale Sleeper MLB Pick: More Than 7.5 Strikeouts

I’ve attacked this play all day today because it has me scratching my head. Sale has finished with at least eight strikeouts in six of his last seven starts and ranks among the top 10 starting pitchers in strikeout percentage and K/9 this year.

The Tampa Bay Rays have the fourth highest strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. This feels like a perfect matchup for Sale to finish with more than 7.5 strikeouts.

Hunter Brown Sleeper MLB Pick: More Than 5.5 Strikeouts

Yes, the odds on this one won’t jump off the page, but this is the lowest projection I’ve seen for Brown’s strikeout total today.

Brown has finished with at least seven strikeouts in each of his last three starts and today faces a Tigers team with the seventh-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Brown has a K/9 of 9.83 so as long as he pitches enough innings, the strikeouts should easily be there for him today.
