DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
Small slates can be tough to build lineups with. You have a limited number of options to choose from and a lot of players are going to see high exposure percentages, so you have to try and differentiate from the field, while at the same time not having many ways to do that. As for this particular slate, Spencer Strider and Luis Castillo are the headliners on the mound and the Baltimore Orioles have the highest implied run total. Let’s dive into all of it!
Recommended DFS Starting Pitchers
Top Options for Strikeouts
Spencer Strider, Atlanta Braves
Dylan Cease, Chicago White Sox
Reid Detmers, Los Angeles Angels
Best Odds for a Win
Luis Castillo (Seattle Mariners -260)
Spencer Strider (Atlanta Braves -202)
Andrew Heaney (Texas Rangers -200)
Justin Verlander (New York Mets -185)
Favorite Starters to Use for DFS Lineups
Spencer Strider, Atlanta Braves
Strider was on a bit of a struggle bus for a couple of starts, but he snapped out of it in his last outing, firing six innings of one-run ball against the Phillies with 9 Ks. It was his 10th start with at least 9 Ks and he has at least 6 in every start this year. His upside is massive and he’s already had a 47 points game on DK this year. The Twins are a fantastic matchup and Strider is worth the price of admission.
Justin Verlander, New York Mets
JV has not been anywhere near the JV that we saw last season when he won the AL Cy Young, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still get value in playing him at this mid-tier price tag. He has scored north of 20 dk points in four of his 9 starts, so there is some upside. He has been WAY better at home this year too with a 3.24 ERA and 0.96 WHIP, compared to a 5.67 ERA and 1.44 WHIP on the road. CHECK THE WEATHER.
Reid Detmers, Los Angeles Angels
Detmers has been fantastic lately, scoring 26.6, 23.9, and 30.0 dk points over his last three starts. Those last two came against two of the best offenses in baseball too, the Rangers and Dodgers, so he’s pretty locked in right now. He has also been better at home this year with a 3.79 ERA and DK ppg of 18.2, compared to 4.31 and 13.4 on the road, respectively.
Recommended DFS Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
5.19 – Baltimore Orioles
5.00 – Texas Rangers
4.75 – Atlanta Braves
4.74 – New York Mets
Favorite Hitters to Use for DFS Lineups
Pete Alonso, 1B, New York Mets
Alonso appears to be heating back up, as he homered in his last game and now has two home runs in his past four games. He now has 24 dingers and 99 total R/RBI across 69 games of action this season. Today, Alonso and the Mets take on Colin Rea, who has a 4.888 ERA through 62.2 innings fo work and has given up 10 long balls. CHECK THE WEATHER.
Josh Jung, 3B, Texas Rangers
Jung is having a fantastic rookie season, hitting .274 with 15 home runs and 96 total R/RBI across 74 games. He’s been better at home this season, hitting .286 with a .871 OPS, compared to .265 and .769 on the road, respectively. He has crushed lefties this year and tonight he faces a weak lefty in Matthew Boyd, who has a 5.37 ERA and 1.32 WHIP on the year.
Jordan Westburg, SS, Baltimore Orioles
Westburg is slated to make his MLB debut tonight and at the minimum price, this feels like a lock play for me. He was incredible through 67 games at AAA, slashing .295/.372/.567 with 18 home runs, 57 runs, 54 RBI, and seven stolen bases. He gets a cake matchup to start his career too, facing Brandon Williamson, who has a 5.40 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through 36.2 innings this year. CHECK THE WEATHER.
Anthony Santander, OF, Baltimore Orioles
Let’s go right to another Orioles bat; Santander is on a tear right now, homering in five of his past six games and he has nine RBI in that span. In fact, over his last 10 games he is hitting .317 with a 1.041 OPS. He’s also been better at home this season, hitting .291 with a .893 OPS, compared to .253 and .788 on the road, respectively. CHECK THE WEATHER.
