Happy Thursday! T-minus 4 days until the all-star break, so let’s make sure to keep things rolling with some more winning MLB DFS lineups today. We have a few afternoon games to enjoy before getting to the 6-game main slate (was 7, but Toronto Blue Jays vs Chicago White Sox has been removed after yesterday’s postponement making today a double-header for them); tonight’s slate will start at 7:05 PM EST on both DraftKings and FanDuel. We have some exciting matchups today with some division games, including the Baltimore Orioles taking on the New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners facing the Houston Astros, plus some strong offensive matchups, including the Texas Rangers wrapping up their series in Fenway against the Boston Red Sox. DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

Today is a day where I am not a big fan of most of the pitching options outside of the higher-end pitchers. My three favorite plays are the only ones I am really considering today in Nathan Eovaldi, George Kirby, and Tanner Bibee. I wouldn’t argue with someone liking Julio Urias today against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but this is just his second start coming off the IL, and he wasn’t great in his first outing, so I am staying away for now. On the offensive side, some of the best lineups to target include the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Guardians, and the New York Yankees.

Favorite Starters to Use for DFS Lineups

Nathan Eovaldi, Texas Rangers

Nathan Eovaldi pitching in his first game back in Fenway against the Red Sox. He has been fantastic all season, and while the strikeouts have been down a bit the last few starts, he has also had a stretch of some tough opponents but still gets almost a strikeout an inning on the season, along with his fantastic 2.64 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. He has been the Rangers’ best pitcher this season, and I expect him to finish the first half strong today against his former team. 

George Kirby, Seattle Mariners

George Kirby is an all-star, and rightfully so. He has been amazing this season and is coming off a start where he went 7 innings while only giving up 2 runs against the Tampa Bay Rays while striking out 7. Houston isn’t the easiest offense to attack, but without Yordan Alvarez, they aren’t terrifying either, and hopefully, Kirby can have another high strikeout game here before he heads to pitch in the all-star game on Tuesday. 

Tanner Bibee, Cleveland Guardians

Tanne Bibee, in his last two starts, has 16 strikeouts over 11.2 innings while only giving up 1 run off 6 hits. Getting to face the Kansas City Royals today should be the easiest matchup he has had in a long time, and so the strikeouts should continue to come along with the hit and run suppression giving Bibee one of the highest floors of any pitcher today with great strikeout upside to go along with it. While he still isn’t cheap, he is the cheapest option of the pitchers I am targeting today, so is still a good way to save some cash while still getting a quality pitcher.

Favorite Hitters to Use for DFS Lineups

Francisco Alvarez, C New York Mets

Francisco Alvarez has 3 homers in his last 4 games and has been coming up with some huge hits for the Mets. Coming in as still one of the cheapest catching options who actually has some power in their bat, Alvarez is a great option today to not pay for the top guys but still get the homer upside with him on this hot streak. 

Christian Walker, 1B Arizona Diamondbacks

Christian Walker’s price has climbed considerably recently, making him one of the most expensive first basemen today, but he has deserved that as he has been fantastic. He has homered in his last two games and, since June 1st, is slashing .316/.386/.598 and has been one of the most consistent hitters in the league. Facing Carlos Carrasco today, who is carrying a 2.04 HR/9, should provide him a great opportunity to make it three straight games with a homer. 

Anthony Volpe, SS New York Yankees

Anthony Volpe was one of my value plays for yesterday’s slate, and he came through with a home run. I am keeping him as not only a value play but one of my favorite hitters of the day today. With his homer yesterday, his OPS over the last 10 games is up to 1.150, as he is red-hot for the Yankees. I don’t trust Kyle Bradish despite his 3.58 ERA, and think that Volpe will easily continue this hot streak today. 

Brandon Nimmo, OF New York Mets

Brandon Nimmo continues to quietly be one of the best-hitting outfielders in the game. He is already up to 13 homers on the season, just 4 short of his career-high back in 2018. This has been boosted by his 5 homers over his last 8 games. Nimmo is extremely consistent and providing upside, especially if he can keep up an increased home run rate. I will gladly take him at the top of the Mets lineup against Ryne Nelson and the Arizona Diamondbacks today.
