MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Starting Pitchers

MLB DFS Top Pitchers

Bryan Woo (SEA)

Analysis: Woo has drastic home/road splits in his career, with far better numbers in Seattle's T-Mobile Park. He hasn't allowed a run in his last two home starts, and he's piled up 17 strikeouts in 12 innings. Arizona has posted a below-average 94 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this season.

Ryan Weathers (NYY)

Analysis: Weathers has incredible upside against an Athletics team that struggles with left-handed pitching. He has the highest strikeout rate on the slate and gets a sneaky great matchup despite the tough ballpark. The A's have posted just an 87 wRC+ against lefties while striking out at the 5th-highest rate.

Jesus Luzardo (PHI)

Analysis: Luzardo has pitched far better than his 4.38 ERA this season, with every estimator having him more than a full run better. He draws an obviously difficult spot against the Dodgers, but he has the tools to succeed in any matchup.

MLB DFS Value Pitchers

Ryne Nelson (ARI)

Analysis: Nelson gets a boost moving from Chase Field to T-Mobile Park for this start. He is coming off four straight starts where he has recorded at least 20 outs, which is impressive length in this era. Seattle has been a difficult matchup for righties this season, but they do strike out at the 6th-highest rate.

Ben Brown (CHC)

Analysis: The Cubs turned to Brown as a starting pitching option after multiple injuries decimated their rotation, and he has responded in a big way. Armed with a new sinker, the early results have been fantastic. The righty has posted a 1.89 ERA across four starts, with 23 strikeouts against just 6 walks in 19 innings.

Roki Sasaki (LAD)

Analysis: There is plenty of risk for Sasaki against a Phillies offense that has underperformed this season, but he has been steadily improving as the season moves along. His command has improved notably, and he's doing a better job keeping the ball in the park in recent starts. The potential is sky high for the young righty if he can build on the improvements.

Top Options For Strikeouts

The top two strikeout targets in today's MLB DFS projections each carry a K/9 above 10.0 and favorable opponent strikeout splits. K-prop lines and value ratings are incorporated below for DFS and prop context. These are the arms building the highest strikeout ceilings on the nine-game slate.

Our model identifies these arms as the highest-ceiling plays for Alt-K lines today:

Ryan Weathers: 28.3% K% (10.2 K/9)

Jesus Luzardo: 27.7% K% (10.5 K/9)

Bryan Woo: 23.0% K% (8.3 K/9)

Ben Brown: 26.4% K% (9.5 K/9)

Ryne Nelson: 19.3% K% (7.4 K/9)

Best Odds For A Win

The following MLB DFS picks offer a combination of favorable win odds, sustainable ERA and xFIP metrics, and soft opponent matchups. Each carry K-prop lines worth noting alongside their DFS value at reduced ownership relative to the top tier.

MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Stacks & Hitters

MLB DFS Top Hitters

Ben Rice & Cody Bellinger (1B/OF, NYY)

Analysis: These Yankees teammates are currently checking in with attractive ownership numbers despite being in an elite spot. Ginn has been quite good this season, but it's still a great home run park, and lefties have had plenty of success off him. Rice leads the Yankees with a .336 ISO vs RHP, while Bellinger has posted a respectable .191 ISO.

Rafael Devers & Willy Adames (1B/SS, SF)

Analysis: The Giants are going to be the chalkiest offense of the slate as they continue their series in Coors Field. Adames has a very attractive price tag at the top of the order, and Devers has been on fire with a 157 wRC+ in May. The park and matchup are clearly elite, with Feltner allowing a 49.2% hard-hit rate this season.

Michael Harris (OF, ATL)

Analysis: A favorable matchup in a great home run park is working in Harris' favor tonight. He owns an elite .246 ISO against righties and is having the best season of his career.  Singer has allowed 2.74 HR/9 this season, and lefties have tagged him for a .295 ISO.

MLB DFS Value Hitters

Trent Grisham (OF, NYY)

Analysis: Grisham is too cheap for his leadoff role atop the Yankees' elite lineup. He's been quite good against righties with a .186 ISO, and Ginn has clearly struggled more with lefties in his career.

Jake McCarthy (OF, COL)

Analysis: McCarthy is another cheap leadoff hitter who is in a great spot. Houser was crushed by lefties last season, and it has been even worse this year, with a .292 ISO allowed.

Dominic Smith (1B/OF, ATL)

Analysis: Smith continues to rake against righties, with a .198 ISO this season. Singer has been lit up for 12.6% barrel rate, and he's allowed a .295 ISO to lefties.

MLB DFS Top Stacks

Primary Stack: San Francisco Giants vs Ryan Feltner (COL RHP)

Why: The Giants continue their series in Coors Field, with a matchup against a pitcher who has allowed a ton of hard contact this season. Feltner's xSLG and xWOBA are among the highest in all of baseball, and he's managed just 19.3% strikeouts. The Giants should be able to do significant damage tonight.

Primary Stack: Atlanta Braves vs Brady Singer (CIN RHP)

Why: The Braves get a standout matchup as well in Great American Ballpark. Singer has some expected stats that rival Feltner, and he's missed even fewer bats, with just a 15.7% strikeout rate. His 14 home runs allowed are the third-most in all of baseball. The Braves own the third-highest wRC+ against righties this season.

Primary Stack: Colorado Rockies vs Adrian Houser (SF RHP)

Why: The Rockies are implied for just as many runs as the Giants, but they aren't expected to see the same level of ownership. Houser has one of the lowest strikeout rates among qualified starters, and he's allowed a 45.9% hard-hit rate.

"Contrarian" Stack: New York Yankees vs J.T. Ginn (ATH RHP)

Why: The Yankees won't be “contrarian” per se, but they do project outside the top three offenses in ownership, and that feels like a solid leverage spot. They are an elite offense in one of the best hitting environments of the slate. Ginn is a better pitcher than Feltner, Houser, or Singer, but he's still not a reason to shy away from Yankees bats.

"Contrarian" Stack: Chicago Cubs vs Kyle Leahy (STL RHP)

Why: The Cubs offense is starting to show signs of life after a prolonged slump in May. There are some solid mid-range price tags for a plus matchup with Leahy, who has managed just an 18.3% strikeout rate and has allowed a 50% hard-hit rate.

MLB DFS Lineups: Core MLB DFS Hitters & Pitchers

The "Pivot" (Low

Owned)

The Winning Logic
Woo (SP, chalk)Weathers (SP, similar tier)Woo has been excellent at home, but Weathers has similar upside in a matchup with an A's team that has struggled vs. LHP.
SF + COL as primary stacksNYY + CHC as contrarian stacksCoors is obviously fantastic, and ATL is in a great spot, but that is leaving elite offenses like NYY and CHC a bit off the radar tonight.
Arraez + Devers (chalk)Chisholm + Rice (lower owned)SF is a below-average offense being boosted by Coors Field. NYY is an elite offense that is in an equally great spot but projected to be much lower owned.
