Well, he’s recorded seven or more strikeouts in four of his last five to go along with a 24.8 K% He’s dropped the usage on his fastball a bit, in favor of a few more sliders (16.2 SwStr%) and curveballs (11.5 SwStr%).

The Twins aren’t exactly one of the most strikeout prone teams, as they actually have the fourth-lowest strikeout rate out of the All-Star break. However, if you dive in a bit more, you’ll see some vulnerabilities come to light. Minnesota’s strikeout rate on the road is nearly four percentage points higher than at home, and if you look specifically against lefties, the team’s 24.2 K% on the road against southpaws is well higher than the team’s 19.6 K% at home versus lefties.

You can get after the Twins’ lineup when they are away from home, and through Cameron’s young career, he’s dominated the Twins to the tune of a 0.57 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, and 26.1 K% across 31.1 IP (5 starts).

We all know how dominant Alvarez has been this season, but amidst all of his impressive numbers here’s what matters today: 1.161 OPS against RHP and a 1.230 OPS at home.

Jameson Taillon will make his Toronto debut this afternoon, and it’s not the easiest of matchups. Overall, the Houston offense has been one of the league’s best since the All-Star break, posting a .270 average, .347 wOBA, and 125 wRC+. However, specifically against right-handed pitching, it’s been even better, highlighted by a .280 AVG, .814 OPS, .355 wOBA, and 130 wRC+. Taillon’s issues with left-handed hitters are well-documented, so if it isn’t an Alvarez homer that cashes this for us, he should have plenty of ABs with runners on base.
