Yordan Alvarez MLB ParlayPlay Fantasy Pick: More Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

Yordan Alvarez continues to be the betting favorite to win AL MVP honors. The Houston Astros’ star is having a fantastic season, and he can do damage on Sunday in a favorable spot. Let’s back him to produce against Texas Rangers starter Kumar Rocker. 

Rocker brings in a 4.03 ERA this season. That includes a shaky 4.86 ERA over his last seven outings. He recently faced the Astros in July and coughed up seven runs on eight hits. In that start, Alvarez smacked a two-run homer in the first inning. 

As for Alvarez, he’s crushing right-handed pitching this year. Houston’s designated hitter boasts a .337 batting average and 1.132 OPS vs. righties. He’s also hitting .375 with a 1.215 OPS at home. If we combine those splits, Alvarez is batting .396 with a 1.271 OPS against right-handers at home. 

Those are some insane stats that point to Alvarez hammering the right-handed Rocker today. It also helps that the Rangers’ pitcher has allowed a .273 average and .804 OPS to left-handed batters so far this year.  Plus, Alvarez is hitting .396 with a 1.341 OPS over his last 15 games. Furthermore, he is 3-for-4 with two home runs in his career vs. Rocker. 

 

Chase Burns MLB ParlayPlay Fantasy Pick: More Than 6.5 Strikeouts

Chase Burns is coming off one of his roughest outings of the season after surrendering five runs to the Guardians on Tuesday. Count on him to bounce back as the Cincinnati Reds’ ace faces a divisional opponent at home today. The matchup gives Burns a great chance to pile up strikeouts against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Pittsburgh has been one of the most strikeout-prone lineups in baseball against right-handed pitching since the All-Star break, posting a league-high 29.1% strikeout rate in the split. The Pirates also have just a 5.5% walk rate vs. righties in this stretch, which is the third-lowest in the majors. Plus, they own a 23.5% K rate against right-handed pitching overall this season, which is the sixth-highest mark in baseball. 

Burns’ strikeout numbers have dipped slightly in recent starts. Still, his underlying metrics remain outstanding. He owns a 28.1% strikeout rate this season (85th percentile) with a 31.7% whiff rate (91st percentile) and 34.1% chase rate (84th). He’s also owned Pittsburgh this year, recording seven or more strikeouts in all three prior meetings. Overall this season, Burns has seven or more strikeouts in 13-of-20 starts.
