MLB Week 22 Injury Report Update: Pitchers

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers - Thigh

Ohtani took a comebacker off his thigh, but no damage was done beyond a contusion. He should be in the lineup on Friday.

Roki Sasaki, Los Angeles Dodgers - Shoulder

Sasaki was sitting in the mid-90s with his fastball in his second rehab start, but per @TJStats on X, Sasaki was out of the zone a good bit, and generated only a 5.6 Whiff% with his fastball.

Cole Ragans, Kansas City Royals - Rotator Cuff

The Royals are hoping that Ragans can return in mid-September, and a rehab assignment should be drawing near for Ragans.

Jacob deGrom, Texas Rangers - Shoulder

deGrom is dealing with some fatigue in his right shoulder, and the team opted to skip a start. Keep an eye on this.

Cade Horton, Chicago Cubs - Blister

Horton’s next start is slated for August 23rd, so long as his blister heals in time. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets bumped a day or two, just to be safe.

Landen Roupp, San Francisco Giants - Knee

Roupp’s last start ended early as he sprained his left knee. The status for his next start is TBD.

Pablo Lopez, Minnesota Twins - Shoulder

Lopez made his first rehab start on Thursday in his recovery from a teres major strain. He allowed one earned run on four hits over 1.2 IP, working up to 45 pitches in that outing.

MLB Week 22 Injury Report Update: Hitters

Vladimir Guerrero, Toronto Blue Jays - Hamstring

Vladdy Jr. is dealing with some hamstring tightness, and he’s currently day-to-day.

Adley Rutschman, Baltimore Orioles - Oblique

Rutschman was placed on the injured list with a right oblique strain. He missed over a month earlier this season with a left oblique strain. Fantasy managers should be hoping that Samuel Basallo can get enough starts behind the dish to salvage his catcher eligibility for 2026. He’s started two of the three games behind the dish that Rutschman has missed with this oblique issue.

Jackson Merrill, San Diego Padres - Ankle

The Padres haven’t ruled out an IL stint for Merril, who has missed the team’s last four games with an injured ankle.

Austin Riley, Atlanta Braves - Core

Riley’s 2025 season has come to an end, as he underwent surgery for the issue.

Jordan Westburg, Baltimore Orioles - Ankle

Westburg is day to day, but the Orioles are hoping that he can avoid an IL stint. Westburg has missed the team’s last two games due to his ankle issue.

Jackson Chourio, Milwaukee Brewers - Hamstring

Chourio is set to begin a rehab assignment on Friday. The plan is to start as a DH, and play the outfield within a few days.

Brandon Nimmo, New York Mets - Neck

Nimmo is day-to-day with a neck ailment. The injury comes at a bad time, as prior to exiting early on August 20th, Nimmo was slashing .345/.394/.517 during a seven-game hit streak.

Tyler Stephenson, Cincinnati Reds - Thumb

Stephenson was placed on the injured list with a fractured thumb on his left hand. Jose Trevino will see more ABs with Stephenson on the shelf.

Francisco Alvarez, New York Mets - Thumb

With Alvarez heading to the injured list with a thumb issue, Luis Torrens should see added ABs beyond the dish for the Mets.

Jacob Wilson, Athletics - Forearm

Barring any setbacks, Wilson could rejoin the big league club this weekend.

Ha-Seong Kim, Tampa Bay Rays - Back

Kim is dealing with some tightness in his back, and he’s day-to-day at the moment.
