New York Mets vs Clay Buchholz

This is probably going to be the chalk stack of the day as not much is thought of Clay Buchholz when healthy never mind when he is making his first start since having tommy john surgery.  Over the last week the Mets have the third highest team batting average so they are hitting well and get to face Clay.  In Clay’s last full season in the majors he struggled against left-handed hitters which bodes well for the Mets as five of their first six hitters will bat from the left side of the plate.  I am specifically targeting Brandon Nimmo , Jay Bruce and Michael Conforto in my stack today.

Atlanta Braves vs Wei-Yin Chen

The Braves boast the top team batting average and OPS against left-handed pitchers this season which means Marlins starter Wei-Yin Chen could be in for a rough day.  Braves leadoff man Ozzie Albies is feasting on southpaws this season, hitting .412 with an OPS of 1.258.  Catcher Tyler Flowers is 6-for-9 with a home run vs lefties this season and last year he had an OPS over .800 against southpaws. Though a lefty himself, Freddie Freeman is hitting .340 with five home runs and an OPS of 1.117 vs southpaws this season.  He is also 4-for-9 with a triple off Chen in his career.

Boston Red Sox vs David Hess

The Red Sox have the top offense in baseball and also have the best player in baseball right now in Mookie Betts .  Betts currently leads baseball in 20 different categories but most notably home runs, doubles, hits, runs, batting average and OPS just to name a few.  He sets the table for Andrew Benintendi , Hanley Ramírez , J.D. Martínez and Xander Bogaerts who are all in play today against Orioles righty David Hess .  The Red Sox are the most expensive team to stack so you will need to either spend down on pitching or find some cheaper one-off plays if you look to use three or more of them today.

Contrarian Stack

Texas Rangers vs Reynaldo López

I have been on the stack against Lopez train for a while now.  His solid start to the season was not supported by his peripheral stats which indicated he was getting very lucky and due to start getting rocked and for the most part that has started to come true as Lopez has struggled of late allowing 12 runs on 16 hits over his last three starts.  I am all in on the Rangers left-handed heavy lineup today doing some damage against Lopez as lefties are hitting .273 with an OPS of .919 against him this season.  With that said I am looking at Nomar Mazara , Shin-Soo Choo , Joey Gallo and Jurickson Profar Delino DeShields is also in play given his stolen base upside against a right-handed pitcher.
