Thee MLB season returns to action tonight with the Cardinals and Cubs kicking off post All-Star break play.  St. Louis is sending Carlos Martínez to the mound and he will be opposed by Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks . Vegas has the Cubs as a -155 favorite to win this game with a Run Total of 9.5.

Chicago Cubs

Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks went 6-8 with a 3.92 ERA heading into the All-Star break. He did post his lowest K/9 mark since becoming a full-time starter at 6.77 while his HR/9 is at a career worst 1.39.  Hendricks has faced the Cardinals just once this season and in that start he allowed three runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out three over six innings.

As a team the Cubs rank third in runs scored, second in average and second in OPS against right-handed pitching this season.

Javier Báez has lead the Cubs offensively through this point in the season as the former No.1 overall prospect is hitting .292 with 61 runs, 19 home runs, 72 RBI, 18 stolen bases and an OPS of .892.

Kyle Schwarber has had a fine bounce back season in 2018 as he is hitting .249 with 18 home runs and an .873 OPS on the year.  Against right-handed pitching this season Schwarber has hit all 18 of his home runs and owns an OPS of .924.

Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant have been disappointing on a whole for DFS and fantasy owners alike.  Rizzo is hitting just .246 with 12 home runs and an OPS of .748 while Bryant has spent time on the DL and is hitting just .280 with 10 home runs and an OPS of .867.

St. Louis Cardinals

Cardinals starter Carlos Martínez went 6-5 with a 3.08 ERA over 16 starts prior to the All-Star break.  He spent some time on the DL and struggled initially when he came back but over his final four starts heading into the break he went 3-1 with a 2.63 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.  Martinez has one start against the Cubs this season and it did not go to well as he allowed three runs on seven hits while walking six and striking out five over five innings.

The Cardinals offense as a team has struggled against right-handed pitching this season as they rank 21st in runs scored, 18th in batting average and 21st in OPS.

Prized offseason acquisition Marcell Ozuna has largely disappointed this season as he is hitting .268 with just 10 home runs and an OPS of .693.  On the bright side he is 4-for- 13 (.308) with a home run and five RBI off Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks over the course of his career.

Tommy Pham has been equally as disappointing this season as he is hitting just .243 with 13 home runs 35 RBI, nine stolen bases and an OPS of .722.  This comes after his breakout 2017 season.

Matt Carpenter and Yadier Molina have been bright spots for the Cardinals offense. Carpenter is hitting .263 with 19 home runs and an OPS of .903.  He also has two career home runs off Kyle Hendricks

Yadier Molina leads N.L. catchers in home runs with 13 while hitting .274 with an OPS of .789.  This offensive production comes with him missing time due to a DL stint which cost him 26 games this season.

Jose Martinez has been another bright spot for this Cardinals offense this season as the first baseman is hitting .297 with 13 home runs, 56 RBI and an OPS of .840.  Martinez leads the club in batting average, RBI and hits on the after entering Spring Training without a starting job.
