Cardinals vs. Nationals Prediction: Tuesday, April 7th
The starting pitching matchup in this game is intriguing. We have Matthew Liberatore starting for the St. Louis Cardinals, and Cade Cavalli on the bump for the Washington Nationals. Let’s trust one of those starters for today’s MLB best bets. Plus, one offense has a clear edge over the other.
Cade Cavalli had a shaky first start of the season, but he was much better the second time through the rotation. The Nationals’ right-hander allowed just 1 run over 6 innings on the road at Philadelphia. That’s an impressive outing against a dangerous Phillies lineup, let alone away from home. It’s also a good sign for a guy who recently gave up 0 earned runs across 12 innings during Spring Training.
Now, Cavalli gets to face a St. Louis offense that’s struggled against right-handed pitching thus far. The Cardinals have a .282 wOBA and .203 batting average in the split this year (both 25th in MLB). We also get Cavalli at home, where he was a lot better last season. The righty posted a 2.49 ERA and 2.74 FIP when pitching in Washington in 2025, compared to a 6.17 ERA and 6.48 FIP on the road.
On the other side, we can fade a Matthew Liberatore in a sneaky-tough matchup. The Cards’ left-hander looked good in his first two starts, allowing only 2 runs over 11 innings. However, both outings came at home. Now he has to pitch on the road, where he posted a 4.50 ERA and 4.53 FIP last year.
Plus, the Washington lineup is swinging it very well to begin the season. The Nationals rank 4th in the majors in runs scored, averaging 6.4 per game. They’ve also scored 5+ runs in 8 of 10 games so far. The Nats are especially crushing left-handed pitching with a .367 wOBA (3rd in MLB), .286 BA (1st), and .813 OPS (3rd) in the split.
Let’s back Washington to lead after five innings and get the win. Cavalli is the better pitcher to back, and the Nationals’ offense should get to Liberatore early. The Nationals recently lost 5 in a row, but they took a 9-6 victory over St. Louis in yesterday’s series opener. The Cards, meanwhile, have dropped 3 of their last 4 and are dealing with an overworked bullpen.

Tigers vs. Twins Prediction: Tuesday, April 7th
Welcome to Tarik Skubal Day! The reigning back-to-back AL Cy Young winner gets the ball today, which immediately gives us the chance to bet on the Detroit Tigers. Their ace should handle the Minnesota Twins in a divisional matchup, and the offense can provide enough run support to feel confident.
Skubal has been strong right out of the gate, allowing just 1 earned run over 13 innings across his first two starts. Both outings also came on the road, which bodes well for today’s road start against Minnesota. The left-hander posted a 2.30 ERA and 2.84 FIP on the road last year while not shying away from tough environments away from Detroit.
The Twins, meanwhile, have struggled against left-handed pitching this season. They have a .262 wOBA (26th in MLB), .173 batting average (28th), and 27.0% strikeout rate (22nd) vs. southpaws so far. Skubal owns a 2.25 ERA in his last 5 starts against Minnesota, and he can keep that trend going today.
Across the diamond, Taj Bradley gets the start for the Twins. The righty has also begun this season on a high note, allowing only 1 run over 10.1 innings in his two outings. However, it may be time to sell high. This is still the same pitcher who posted a 5.05 ERA and 4.35 FIP last year. He’ll now face a Detroit lineup that’s above-average against right-handed pitching this season (.323 wOBA, 107 wRC+).
It’s also worth noting that Minnesota beat the Tigers, 7-3, in yesterday’s series opener. The Twins likely won’t win many consecutive games this year, so it provides a chance to fade them after a loss. Plus, in that win, they used many key relievers to get by. Detroit, on the other hand, brings in a well-rested bullpen that can shut down the later innings following Skubal.
