Phillies vs. Braves Predictions: Sunday, April 26th

For those of you with SiriusXM subscriptions out there, you heard me pump up the Braves bandwagon pretty hard in the preseason and it’s a little early to take a victory lap. Holy cow what a opening month for them. Atlanta is the highest scoring team in MLB with 5.71 runs per game and they also rank third in isolated power and fifth in team BABIP. This should tell you that Aaron Nola and the Phillies are in for a rude awakening this afternoon down in the ATL.

This is even more true considering Chris Sale will take the mound for the Braves and he’s been excellent in four of his five starts to begin the young season. His xwOBA which sits at .284 is in the top 30 of starting pitchers and his hard-hit rate has dropped to 30.3% which is seventh best among qualified starters. This offense and Sale against the Phillies this afternoon, yea good luck with that to the vistors, Braves roll big on the Run Line for me here.

In addition to that game wager, let’s fit in a prop for the game at look at Matt Olson. His wOBA on the season is .417, which puts him in the top six in MLB for those who have over 100 at bats and his hard-hit rate sits at 48.8%. On top of that, he’s been hot recently as over the past week as he’s holding down an OPS of .900 and has four extra base hits and two home runs over the last 30 at bats. He’s in a good spot again today as Aaron Nola has struggled against lefties the past few seasons, but this year, they are hitting a .367 average and 1.049 OPS off him. Fade Nola, fade the Phillies, and bet on Matt Olson to go over his Hits/Runs/RBIs prop

Padres vs. Diamondbacks Predictions: Sunday, April 26th

It's so nice to have a fun slate every Sunday to work with, as I never get boxed into what I have to wager on! I can window shop every game and this one caught my eye early on with Ryne Nelson for Arizona going against Michael King of San Diego.

Ryne Nelson has been anything but good to start this season with a 6.97 ERA and 21 hits given up in 20.2 innings pitched, but truth be told, the underlying stats are so much worse. The man is hovering on the edge here with a xwOBA of .355, but what’s more shocking is the hard hit rate of 51.5% which ranks fourth highest in the majors among qualified starting pitchers. This puts the Diamondbacks in a hell of spot already and Michael King will start on the other side for the Padres. He's been rock solid over 27.2 innings, allowing just seven earned runs while punching out 27 total.

I think the Arizona offense is the better lineup today, but the pitching matchup is just too lopsided for me. The Padres have big bats that will exploit the stat cast data of Nelson on the mound and I could see a bevy of bombs, leading the Padres to a big win today.
