Phillies vs. Braves Prediction: Wednesday, September 30th

Our MLB best bets today start with the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves in Game 2 of their NL Wild Card series. The Braves won the opener on Tuesday, 5-3, thanks to an Austin Riley homer in the 8th inning. Today’s matchup projects to be low-scoring, so we’ll look at some unders. 

Cristopher Sanchez starts for Philadelphia. The left-hander was one of the league’s best pitchers this year, with a 2.91 ERA and 231 strikeouts. Though he hasn’t been as dominant over the past month, Sanchez can shut down the Braves today. 

Atlanta has struggled to hit left-handed pitching lately. Over the past month, the Braves have a league-worst .260 wOBA and 61 wRC+ against southpaws. Those issues showed up in Game 1, as Phillies lefty Jesus Luzardo tossed 5 innings of one-run ball with 6 strikeouts. 

As for Sanchez, he brings in proven postseason experience. He boasts a 2.79 ERA with a 19:5 K:BB ratio across 4 career playoff starts. That includes two strong outings against the Dodgers last year. He also owns a 2.18 ERA in his last four starts against Atlanta over the past two seasons. 

On the other side, the Braves will start Tyler Mahle. The right-hander has been very good since being acquired at the trade deadline. He owns a 1.99 ERA over 9 starts with Atlanta, including two impressive outings against the Phillies. The Philadelphia offense, meanwhile, has just a .283 wOBA and .215 batting average vs. righties over the last month. 

Let’s count on Sanchez and Mahle to both stifle the scoring early and often. Grab the under for the first 5 innings and the full game. We also have to factor in the elimination game scenario, which should force both teams to deploy their top relievers. Atlanta wants to avoid a Game 3, while Philly needs to win to stay alive. 

White Sox vs. Astros Prediction: Wednesday, September 30th

The Chicago White Sox took Game 1 of this AL Wild Card series with a 6-3 victory over the Houston Astros yesterday. It’s now win-or-go-home time for the ‘Stros. Let’s back them to even things up with a victory for our MLB best bets today. 

Hunter Brown toes the rubber for Houston. The right-hander posted a 3.19 ERA and 1.27 WHIP this season. The Astros need a strong start from Brown after the bullpen game strategy let them down on Tuesday. Well, he should be up for the challenge. 

Brown has pitched well lately, with a 2.33 ERA and 2.25 FIP over his last 7 starts. He also owns a 2.67 ERA over his past 12 outings. He faced the White Sox twice in the regular season, allowing just 2 runs with a 14:2 K:BB ratio. Brown also brings a 1.65 ERA across 16.1 career postseason innings for Houston. 

Sean Burke gets the start for Chicago on the other side. The right-hander had a solid season with a 3.34 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. He’s also mostly pitched well over the past month. However, it’s worth fading him in a tough matchup. The Astros boast a league-best .375 wOBA and 144 wRC+ vs. righties over the last two weeks. 

Houston may have lost Game 1, but it should respond at home to even the series. The Astros and White Sox faced each other 7 times after the All-Star break, with the ‘Stros going 5-2 in those meetings. They also recently won 3 of 4 at home vs. Chicago a month ago.
