MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 7/25

Padres vs. Cardinals Predictions

The Padres are in the Midwest today as they get ready for game 2 of this weekend series against the Cardinals in what should be a good matchup for the visitors against Miles Mikolas! Let’s get into the bets for this one.

Miles Mikolas has been struggling this summer in a big way as he’s allowed 32 earned runs over his last 31.2 innings pitched, and all the while the hits have stacked up as well with 50 total during that span. That opens the door for a Padres lineup that has overall struggled post-All-Star break to get going again. San Diego will benefit from being a disciplined team as well, with just a 19.3% strikeout rate dating back to June 1st, with a .285 team BABIP. Expect them to put the ball in play today against Mikolas.

In addition to that, Nick Pivetta will be on the bump for the Padres, and over his last 4 starts, he has an ERA of 0.74 and has 26 strikeouts over his last 24.1 innings pitched. All things considered, I like the Padres to win this one tonight and break their 3-game losing streak.

With that Money Line locked down, I want to pick on Mikolas a bit more as his splits against lefty hitters have been suspect at best. He’s allowing a .271 average and .798 OPS against the opposite side of the plate this season, and Luis Arraez is hot again, hitting .393 with a .933 OPS over the past 7 games. I like him to go over his Hits/Runs/RBIs prop tonight, hitting out of the two-hole in the lineup.

Pick: Padres Money Line (-130 on DraftKings)

Pick: Luis Arraez (SD) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-160 on DraftKings)

Braves vs. Rangers Predictions

It's an interleague matchup tonight as the Braves head down to Texas this weekend to take on the Rangers! I see Texas with the upper hand with Nathan Eovaldi on the hill against a Texas bullpen game, but let’s jump into the numbers and find some bets!

Off the top, I noticed that the Braves are striking out quite a bit this summer at a rate of 23.5% dating back to June 1st, which ranks 6th highest in MLB at this time. They also punch out at a rate of 24.1% against lefties, which puts Eovaldi in a great spot tonight as he’s held down his stats to just 5 earned runs over the past 21.2 innings pitched with 21 total strikeouts and 17 hits. He’s often inconsistent in the K department, but I think today is a fire-up-the-arm kind of spot for him as his prop sits at 5.5. He has topped that number in 2 of the last 3 games, and his strikeout per 9 numbers are much better at home this season, so let’s take the over there.

On top of that, the Rangers overall have been playing good baseball out of the All-Star break, winning 5 of 6 games, and the Braves are 18-31 on the road this season. That places the Rangers' Money Line as one of the best bets on the board tonight as Eovaldi and the bats should take care of the Braves in the series opener.

Pick: Nathan Eovaldi (TEX) Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-120 on DraftKings)

Pick: Rangers Money Line (-150 on DraftKings)
