Angels vs. Padres Predictions: Tuesday, May 13th
The Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres continue their interleague series with a late-night Tuesday matchup. The home Padres have notable advantages offensively and on the mound in this spot.Â
Padres starter Dylan Cease is sporting a shaky 4.91 ERA this season. However, it’s inflated due to one terrible outing when Cease allowed nine runs on the road to the Athletics in a proven hitter-friendly park. In his five starts since, the right-hander has a 3.16 ERA. Cease also boasts a respectable 3.36 FIP this season with a 27.0% K rate (77th percentile) and 30.4% whiff rate (81st).Â
At home tonight, Cease should handle the Angels. This is a bottom-tier offense both on the road and against right-handed pitching this season. When facing righties on the road, Los Angeles has a .281 wOBA (27th in MLB), 80 wRC+ (26th), .207 BA (28th), and 25.9% K rate (28th). It’s an easy matchup for Cease, who had a 3.03 ERA at home last year and boasts a career 3.30 ERA at Petco Park.Â
It’s worth mentioning that Cease left his last start early with a forearm cramp. Yet, he’s good to go today and won’t miss a turn in the San Diego rotation. In that last outing, by the way, Cease took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Yankees.Â
On the other side, bank on plenty of run support from the Padres hitters in their own matchup. Angels starter Jose Soriano has a 4.00 ERA and 1.53 WHIP through eight starts. In his last two road outings, the right-hander has given up seven runs and 15 hits combined across 10.2 innings. Another rough road start could be coming here.Â
The Padres are crushing right-handed pitching lately. Over the past week, their .384 wOBA, 150 wRC+, .320 BA, and 14.1% K rate vs. righties all lead the majors. This is a top-tier offense against right-handers overall this season as well (.334 wOBA, 116 wRC+, .276 BA, 17.7% K rate). San Diego is also the toughest offense that Soriano has faced so far this year.Â
Grab the Padres to lead after five innings and cover the full-game runline in a comfortable victory. San Diego is 14-4 at home this year, with 12 of 14 home victories coming by 2+ runs. The Angels are 7-13 on the road, including losses in nine straight road games. Plus, 12 of their 13 road losses have been by 2+ runs.Â

Rays vs. Blue Jays Predictions: Tuesday, May 13th
The Toronto Blue Jays host the Tampa Bay Rays tonight in the first of a three-game series. This also marks the first time this season that the AL East foes will face each other. Let’s break down how to bet on this divisional matchup.Â
Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios owns a 3.86 ERA and 1.41 WHIP this season. Those definitely aren’t flashy numbers, but he’s been better lately. The right-hander boasts a 2.63 ERA over his last four outings with three quality starts in this stretch. Berrios also has a 3.02 ERA over his last seven starts since a blowup on Opening Day.Â
At home tonight, Berrios gets a favorable matchup. Tampa Bay is a bottom-tier offense on the road this year with a .280 wOBA (27th in MLB), 79 wRC+ (27th), and 24.7% strikeout rate (26th). The Rays are also struggling against right-handed pitching over the past week with a .279 wOBA (25th), 82 wRC+ (24th), and 28.9% K rate (30th).Â
It’s an ideal spot for Berrios to continue his good stretch of starts. He notably had a 3.18 ERA at home last year. Plus, he owns a 2.51 ERA over his last five outings against the Rays. The Tampa offense is averaging just 3.2 runs per game over its last six road games.Â
Meanwhile, the Jays should provide run support against Tampa starter Shane Baz. The right-hander has a shaky 4.93 ERA this season, including a poor 8.38 ERA over his last four starts. Baz has gotten hit hard in his past two outings, with 7 runs allowed to the Royals and 6 runs to the Phillies. He also coughed up 5 runs to the Yankees last month.Â
Toronto presents a tough matchup today. The Blue Jays have been a top-tier offense vs. righties over the past week with a .369 wOBA (5th in MLB), 141 wRC+ (4th), and .316 batting average (2nd). They’re also averaging 5.4 runs per game over the past 11 contests.Â
There’s also an interesting trend in play tonight. The Rays are 0-3 in their first games of road trips this season, with all three losses coming by multiple runs. Toronto, on the other hand, has won four straight coming into this game, including a weekend sweep in Seattle.Â
