MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 8/26

Rockies vs. Astros Predictions

Looking at this game on paper, I thought things would come together differently, but it seems the Rockies have not been all that bad of late. Hunter Brown will be on the mound for Houston, and that’ll make things tough on the road team, but let’s dive into the bets.

While it's true Hunter Brown doesn’t allow many runs, he isn’t racking up the strikeouts lately either, with 21 over his last 25 innings pitched. The Rockies are also getting more disciplined, as in the month of August, their team K-rate is down to 21% and their BABIP is now .312, the best in MLB. Brown is allowing a decent amount of hits lately, too, with 19 in the last 4 starts and 8 walks as well. With all that put together, I am going to actually take the under on the Astros ace’s prop tonight at 6.5 at even money.

On the other side of the mound, we have Tanner Gordon pitching for the Rockies, and boy, does this guy stink! He has an ERA of 10.31 in the month of August and has given up 32 hits in 18.1 innings, yes, you read that correctly. He’s not great against either side of the plate, but the righties are giving him more trouble as he’s allowing a .385 average and .988 OPS in 91 at-bats. That’s where Carlos Correa is going to come in with his .375 average and .944 OPS over the past week of games. He is hitting 2nd in the lineup in between some great hitters, so expect him to go over his hits/runs/RBIs prop.

Tigers & Athletics Predictions

The next game to highlight is going to be the Tigers and Athletics game out in West Sacramento that figures to see some fireworks! I say this because the ballpark is smaller and allows tons of power right now, and the pitchers going tonight aren’t the best!

Charlie Morton vs. Osvaldo Bido will be the matchup tonight, and at least if they both last. Bido is allowing an OPS of .895 overall on the season with a .304 average, and Morton, while he has been better in Detroit, is still giving up walks and hits above that of a good pitcher. They will be facing a pair of offenses that have been red hot in August, as the Athletics rank 5th in ISO at .194 with a BABIP of .309, and then the Tigers sit with a .193 ISO and .297 BABIP. These numbers basically mean the teams are crushing the ball, and I don’t think that stops tonight, so let’s ride with the over in this one at 10.5 runs still on some books!
