Tigers vs. Rays Prediction

First up for today’s MLB picks are two pitchers having a great start to the season against a pair of offenses that are really struggling for the Tigers and Rays. That means we’re looking at an under wager this evening. The total is 7.5 runs which is very low, but say we split that in half and look at the total through just 5 innings at 3.5 runs.

This wager makes more sense to me as the starting pitching seems trustworthy at this juncture and I would rather back that. Tarik Skubal will go for Detroit today and he’s been fantastic with a 2.28 ERA on the season and has only allowed 6 runs over 4 starts this season. It’s been tough just to get hits off of him too as there’s only been 14 total to escape him in 23.2 innings pitched. He’s also been very skilled at punching out batters with 26 total on the season to date.

On the other end is Zack Littell, who is doing the Tampa Bay thing where pitchers just play better down there. With his 2.14 ERA and 22 strikeouts this season, he is putting in some good work. Combine those pitchers with lineups that rank 20th and 22nd in runs per game and you see that the under while these two pitchers seem like a great wager for this evening.

Padres vs. Rockies Prediction

It's only mid-to-late April and it's already time to start picking on the lowly Rockies once again this season. It's all for good reason considering they are 5-17 on the season and 3-6 at home already. Austin Gomber is also going to pitch for them, and he can be a gas can with his 4.95 ERA and the threat of any pitch he throws goes yard.

Betting against them is also easier when it's Dylan Cease on the mound for the Padres. He’s looked fantastic through 4 starts this season allowing just 5 runs in 22.2 innings of work. He has also been striking out batters at will it seems with at least 7 in 3 straight starts. That works to his advantage tonight as the Rockies strikeout the 2nd most of any home team in the MLB this season.

I am going to ride San Diego on the run line tonight because of these factors, and the fact that they are 7-2 against the spread on the road so far. I’ll add the over on Cease’s strikeouts to my MLB predictions as well!

Phillies vs. Reds Prediction

We’ll finish up with a couple MLB props. It’s time to target a very inconsistent pitcher here as Hunter Greene is all over the place this season, from starts with 6 earned runs allowed to 9-strikeout dominant performances. Sometimes, these guys are difficult to wager on, but when you see a disciplined team like the Phillies, it's easier to hone in on some lines.

Philadelphia ranks middle of the pack in strikeouts per game and that’s Greene’s bread and butter. If he pitches to contact, I think the Phillies can exploit this with 10 hits per game over the past 4 outings. We know we are going to attack Greene on outs recorded right away on this too as his line sits at 17.5 total outs recorded. He has done this in just 2 starts this season and I don’t see it happening again tonight.

That leads us also into the realm of batting props and I have one player in mind for tonight. It's Trea Turner who has hit .333 this season against righties with 27 total bases to his name in 51 at bats. His line is 1.5 total for total bases, and I think he does more than that against the Reds this evening, so that’ll be my other wager in this contest.
