The Wednesday slate of MLB games gets started early today with a 12:35pm ET first pitch for the Los Angeles Angels/Pittsburgh Pirates game and we’ve got a number of afternoon games to look at here. Some very favorable pitching match-ups, but we all know how tight the books can get, so we’ll be pretty picky with where we go. It might open up some late value for the night games, so we’ll track the latest MLB lines and Vegas odds throughout the day.

MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 5/8

We split the bets during yesterday’s run. We had some real nice game picks, but ended up with a slight loss due to some props. We did not turn a profit, but overall, we lost less than a unit on the day so we’ll look to get it back and then some with today’s action. Maybe some of these pitchers going deeper into games can get their strikeout rate back to where it needs to be. Yeah, I’m looking at you Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Kyle Harrison. Great games last night, but weak strikeouts in the end. No reason to dwell on it. Let’s just get it back.

  • Yesterday’s Record: 5-5
  • Season Record: 101-83-1
  • Bankroll: +7.70 units

Blue Jays vs. Phillies Prediction: Wednesday, May 8

While Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt may be coming off a quality, we’ve seen him get destroyed by lineups with a bunch of power lefty bats. In fact, lefties are posting a mammoth .472 wOBA against him this season and that number jumps to .529 when he’s on the road. Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper obviously lead the way, but there’s a little too much juice on their props. Butt the Phillies are loaded with more lefties throughout the order and it seems highly unlikely, despite some strikeout-prone tendencies, that the Phillies won’t make quick work of him.

Brewers vs. Royals Prediction: Wednesday, May 8

We hit this bet yesterday and we’re going to go right back to the well with Brady Singer on the bump for the Royals and a very hittable Joe Ross throwing for the Brewers. Singer has done a solid job of keeping lineups in check this year and even the lefties have struggled to successfully hit him. The Brewers numbers look good against righties, but they’ve struggled mightily since Christian Yelich landed on the IL and the Brewers have just a .303 wOBA with a 26-percent K-rate over the past week. Singer should hold them down while the Royals sneak a couple of runs in on Ross early.

White Sox vs. Rays Prediction: Wednesday, 5/8

Another bet we hit yesterday that I love going back to today with Chris Flexen on the mound. The Raus have the third-highest team wOBA (.359) over the past week, they aren’t striking out and the .327 BABIP shows them putting the ball in play often. The Rays saw Flexen back on April 26 and he blanked them for five innings, but at the time, the Rays couldn’t hit their way out of a paper bag. They have heated up dramatically in the last two weeks and should jump on Flexen pretty early today.

Astros vs. Yankees Prediction: Wednesday, May 8

With Spencer Arrighetti on the mound for the Astros, I am definitely eyeballing this Yankees teams for some early runs. The Astros righty is coming off his best start against Cleveland, but we’ve watched him get beaten up early by some better lineups and this Yankees lineup is hot right now. The odds are juiced on guys like Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, but with Arrighetti’s splits, we see an opportunity to use another right-handed power bat to do some damage and at plus-money.
