Today, we’re welcoming you to the Wednesday slate for MLB betting. As you probably know from tailing all season, the split slates can be a little tricky. My overall preference is to focus on the evening games as that seems to be where players are most comfortable and perform closest to their projections, but that doesn’t mean we can’t uncover some really nice value bets from the afternoon games as well.

We’ll dive into every game, study the Vegas odds and betting lines and bring you the top places to lay your action for the day.

MLB Picks, Predictions, & Best Bets Today, 5/15

We played the Tuesday slate perfectly yesterday. I warned you about how tight the lines were and how juiced up the odds looked on some of our favorite bets, so rather than force it, we played light and where we felt it best. The results were ideal.

Though we lost out on Chris Bassitt strikeouts prop due to a postponement, we nailed each of our other five bets. When you can come out ahead nearly five units on a day, it’s a great day and our bankroll looks tasty. It’s time to carry that momentum into Wednesday’s MLB predictions!

  • Yesterday’s Record: 5-0
  • Season Record:  130-102-3
  • Bankroll: +16.49 units

*Each of my MLB picks will come with the corresponding betting odds.

Guardians vs. Rangers Prediction: Wednesday, May 15

Not a whole lot of analysis needed here as we are targeting against Carlos Carrasco and his 5.36 ERA to start today’s MLB picks. The Rangers bats, particularly their lefties such as Corey Seager and Nathaniel Lowe, have been strong against righthanded pitching, posting .326 wOBA with a strikeout rate sitting below 20-percent. While they’ve lost five in a row, the man they call Cokie is the cure for what ails them.

Mets vs. Phillies Prediction: Wednesday, May 15

Next up on today’s MLB predictions, we are dialing in on this pitching matchup as Ranger Suarez has been absolutely fantastic – and his underlying metrics support it – while the Mets are calling up lefty Joey Lucchesi to make the start today. Funny thing about Luccesi is that he’s a sinkerball pitcher who’s “hot zone” matches up exactly where the Phillies bats like the ball.

If Lucchesi is going to give them pitches to lift, they will. And don’t sweat the lefty-on-lefty crime for so many of the Phillies hitters as the team is sporting the seventh-highest team wOBA against southpaws (.335) this season and Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Bryson Stitt are all at the top of the team leaderboard.

Reds vs. Diamondbacks Prediction: Wednesday, May 15

Neither the Reds nor the Diamondbacks have been playing great ball, at least from an offensive standpoint. However, the Reds bats, which have just a .297 wOBA over the past week, have plated 11 runs over the last two games against Arizona and now get Brandon Pfaadt. We’ll attack this angle to cap off today’s MLB picks.

He’s definitely settled down from his early season struggles to post quality starts in four of his last five, but he’s still allowed 12 earned runs over that span, three in each of his last two. The Reds aren’t going to chase him, but they should still put up a few runs.

On the other side, we’ve got lefty Andrew Abbott who has flashed brilliance at times, facing a lineup that ranks first in wOBA against southpaws (.371), doesn’t strike out a bunch (less than 18-percent) against them and has a ,182 ISO. The last lefty they beat up was John Means a few games ago and they should be able to put some runs up on the board against Abbott and an overworked Reds bullpen.
