Favorite Bets: 

Jake Mangum, Pittsburgh Pirates (+305) – All eyes will be on the Pirates today as they look to be buying on the trade market right now, but we’ll stay focused on the game at hand and the players in that game. Brandon Sproat has allowed 12 stolen bases this season, and while Brewers catcher William Contreras is one of the better backstops out there with his 34-percent caught-stealing rate on 35 attempts, we’re going to stay on Mangum as we expect the Pirates to test him out early and often. Mangum has a .350 OBP against righties this season and should be aggressive early as the Pirates look to make a strong run at the division and the playoffs.

Longshot:

Jeremy Pena, Houston Astros (+610) – With a short slate and some concern for who will be on the mound for the Blue Jays, we’ll lean into the longshot bet here with Pena to swipe a bag. Maybe it will be Shane Bieber on the mound, and maybe it will be a bullpen game. Either way, let’s put our eggs into Pena’s basket as the Blue Jays, whether it’s Alejandro Kirk or Brandon Valenzuela, have just a 25-percent caught-stealing rate. The Astros don’t have a bunch of burners, but Pena, with his .410 wOBA and seven stolen bases against righties, seems like a good opportunity at long odds.
