I. Thomas - PG
Coach Michael Malone has pushed back on reports that suggested Thomas (hip) is expected back in mid-February, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports. When asked about the situation, coach Malone responded, "Don't believe everything you read. I don't know where these leaks come from, but there is no timetable. There's nothing that's been set about February this, that or the other thing."
The report that Thomas is expected back in mid-February came Friday per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Coach Malone's comments don't rule out the possibility of a return then, but it appears things are less set in stone than initially thought. The situation may continue to develop.

C. DeSmith - G
DeSmith will start Saturday's road tilt in Vegas, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
DeSmith will be countered by ex-Penguin Marc-Andre Fleury and a Vegas club that's 15-4-3 on home ice this season. The matchup is far from favorable, but DeSmith's almost always in with a chance to win thanks to the prolific group of skaters in front of him.

S. Varlamov - G
Varlamov made 30 saves in a 7-1 win over the Kings on Saturday afternoon.
It was his second win in three starts. That's the good news. But it was just his second win since Dec. 15 and only his third since Dec. 2. That's the not-so-good news. Sure, there were short stretches in there where Varlamov missed time due to undisclosed issues. But his game has been queasy all season and that makes him a massive fantasy risk.

W. Barton - SG
Barton is still on an "18-20ish" minute restriction for Saturday's matchup against the Cavaliers, Chris Dempsey of the Nuggets' official site reports.
Barton has played three games since his return from an extended absence as a result of a groin injury. Still, it seems coach Michael Malone and the medical staff wants to bring Barton along slowly. That's a liberty the Nuggets can take, as Denver is 30-14 heading into Saturday's action.

Rask exited Saturday's game against the Rangers after getting crashed into by Filip Chytil.
Chyil added insult to injury by scoring on the play just before getting pushed into Rask by Boston's Charlie McAvoy. Jaroslav Halak will replace Rask, who stopped six of seven shots before exiting. Luckily for the Finnish netminder, Boston doesn't play again until Jan. 29, giving him ample time to recover.
