2024 Player Outlook

Benson has the potential of being an exciting playmaker for the Arizona Cardinals but the presence of James Conner is going to, at least initially, cap his productivity. As fantasy analysts we can talk about what a player can do all we want but ultimately scheme and real life football matter and James Conner is coming off a season where the Cardinals offense was not very good and yet he averaged 5.0 yards per carry while rushing for 1,040 yards and seven touchdowns over 13 games. Conner is also a more than capable pass catcher, last year hauling in 27 passes but in 2022 he caught 46 to give us an idea of what he can have for a ceiling. So, this is not some situation where Trey Benson steps on the field and won't have to work hard to take the job. There is a very real possibility that this ends up like a Zach Charbonnet and Kenneth Walker situation where many in the fantasy community expected Charbonnet to play  this large role in the offense only for Kenneth Walker to hold down the fort all season long. If you are drafting Benson with hopes he will be a weekly starter for you, there is a lot of risk but as training camp and the preseason unfolds, this will be a situation to watch.
