2026 Fantasy Football Player Profile
2025 Season Recap
David Montgomery was traded from Detroit to Houston this offseason after spending two productive seasons as Jahmyr Gibbs' complementary partner with the Lions. In Detroit in 2025 he rushed for 716 yards and eight touchdowns on 158 carries across all 17 games, averaging 4.5 yards per carry and delivering consistently in short-yardage and red zone situations. He was an important piece of the Lions' offensive machine and now arrives in Houston as the primary ball carrier.
2026 Fantasy Outlook
The lead back in a Houston offense with real 2026 momentum, Montgomery settles in as the consensus RB20. C.J. Stroud is motivated in a contract year, Nico Collins is one of the better receivers in the AFC, and the Texans have upgraded the offensive line. Montgomery is a physical, between-the-tackles runner who historically excels in offenses that want to establish the run early and win games in the fourth quarter. If Houston's offense takes the step forward the talent level suggests, Montgomery is looking at a very productive season. He is a fifth-round pick with legitimate top-12 upside in a quietly strong situation.
