2025 Season Recap
Sam Darnold had the best season of his career and then some in 2025, winning a Super Bowl championship with Seattle. He was exceptional on deep passes, averaging 19.4 yards per attempt specifically on balls thrown 20-plus yards downfield, and finished with 4,048 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and a 8.5 yards-per-attempt average overall. The playoff run was clean and efficient, with no turnovers in the Super Bowl. Good for Sam. Genuinely.
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Now comes the hard truth: almost none of that deep passing efficiency is coming back. A 19.4 yards-per-attempt mark specifically on deep balls is historically unsustainable, and the Kenneth Walker run game that allowed those downfield opportunities has relocated to Kansas City. Darnold is the consensus QB23 and the market is basically right. He is a serviceable QB2 with moments of genuine upside when the scheme clicks, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba is a real WR1 who can generate production regardless of what else is happening. But you are not drafting the Super Bowl version of Darnold here. You are drafting a guy who probably regresses toward his career mean.
