Jordan Howard's one-year deal with the Eagles includes no guaranteed money.
In other words, there was no downside for the Eagles bringing back Howard for 2021. The team can cut Howard during or after training camp without penalty. Howard's deal is considered a "veteran salary benefit deal," meaning his cap hit counts as the equivalent of a player with just two years of service. Veteran salary benefit deals are meant to encourage teams to sign veterans over younger and less expensive players. Howard, 26, conceded this week that no other team had reached out to him during free agency after a disastrous 2020 in which he gained 33 yards on 28 carries in five games for the Dolphins. There remains a decent chance he won't make the Eagles' 53-man roster. Apr 16 8:11 am (EST)
