2022 Player Outlook
After missing the entire 2019 season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and opting out of the 2020 season for health reasons, Kopech finally returned to the mound for the White Sox and looked great. He had an impressive 13.37 K/9 over 69.1 innings and while his ERA finished out at 3.50, his 2.74 xERA, 2.97 FIP and 2.99 xFIP have fantasy owners, particularly dynasty leaguers, salivating over the possibilities. The only issue was that Kopech worked exclusively as a reliever last year, so while the strikeouts were nice, the fantasy impact was minimal and now we are left with the question of whether or not he can continue on this trajectory as a regular starter in the rotation. He's still just a two-pitch pitcher and will need to develop either his curve or his change-up better if he is going to be that budding ace everyone is hoping for. In the meantime, he remains a late-round flier in drafts.
