2024 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: The batting average has fallen off for Muncy, but the gaudy Statcast numbers and overall power production certainly have not. Muncy hit 36 home runs last year, tying his career high, while notching a career high 105 RBI. He makes a ton of hard contact, and he posted a 90th percentile barrel rate, and 88th percentile xwOBA. Muncy posted a 96th percentile walk rate, and an 81st percentile chase rate, so it's interesting to see his strikeout rate be in the mid-twenties when he clearly has a good feel for the strike zone. His chase rate did jump a bit compared to the past couple of seasons, and non-fastballs out of the zone gave him some problems last year. However, the biggest issue with Muncy is his inability to hit left-handed pitching. He posted a .155 average against them in 2023, and while he hit them well in 2021, he has just a .165 average and 86 wRC+ against them over the past two seasons.

2024 Outlook: The Dodgers have options off the bench to handle the hot corner against lefties, so Muncy could be on platoon watch. However, he will still get the majority of the starts at third base, and he's a threat to leave the yard with every swing of the lumber. There's a bit more risk with Muncy this year compared to past years, but the power is legit, and he's a far better value in leagues that value OBP.
