2022 Player Outlook

It was home run or bust once again for Gallo last season and even a trade to Yankee Stadium and it’s short rightfield porch couldn’t help to salvage the lefty swinging power hitters’ season (.194/.330/.473). His 63.1% contact rate was way below the 76.1 league average and his 34.6 K rate was way above the league’s 23.2% league average. That type of combination can kill a batter’s fantasy season in a hurry. Unfortunately, it looks like we can expect more of the same for Gallo in 2022. He’s had one season in which he’s batted over .209 in his career (he batted .253 in 2019) and that was obviously an outlier. Based on his early offseason ADP he’s being selected in the 16th round of a typical 12 team league. Rostering Gallo is enticing because let’s face it, we fantasy baseball managers dig the long ball. If you do decide to add Gallo to your fantasy team, make sure that you roster enough players who typically hit for a high batting average so that you’ll be able to absorb Gallo’s inevitable anemic BA.
