2022 Player Outlook
Injuries and being part of a platoon split limited Choi to just 83 games last season and when he was in the lineup, he wasn’t as productive as the Rays would have liked. Choi struck out at the highest rate of his career (28.5%) and batted just .186 against left-handed pitchers. He displayed moderate power that if projected across a full season would give him a home run total in the lower 20 home run range. Choi’s 2021 25.3% LD rate was the highest of his career and there’s a glimmer of hope that if that trend continues, we might see a slight improvement in his batting average. Unfortunately, Choi will likely remain in a platoon this season which will limit his ABs. That fact combined with his below average career FB% (34.7 in 2021) will put a low ceiling on his power and overall fantasy production this season.
