2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Adames was just about as advertised in 2023, as he provided solid power (25 HR) from the shortstop position, while notching 80 RBI, five stolen bases, and a .217/.310/.407 slash line. The drop in batting average didn't do fantasy managers many favors, and an already lackluster plate discipline managed to get worse in 2023. His expected statistics indicate that his numbers in 2023 should have been better, but his contact rate is dropping, he posted a swinging strike rate of at least 14 percent for the third time in the past four seasons, and he left the zone more than ever before!

2024 Outlook: Adames has been consistent in the power department over the past couple of years, so you can bank on another 23+ home runs for Adames in 2024, but I have significant concerns about his batting average for the upcoming year. If your league values OBP over batting average, Adames is a more enticing option, as he has a career 9.4 percent walk rate and .320 OBP. In leagues that only value batting average, you may want to drop him down a couple of spots, as I believe his batting average will be closer to .210 than .250 in 2024. At his current price, selecting Adames likely comes down to roster construction and what you need at that point in time.
