Ryan Weber gave up two runs over five innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Blue Jays.
Weber coughed up five hits, including a solo homer to Teoscar Hernandez in the second inning and an RBI double to Travis Shaw in the fourth inning. He struck out a pair of batters and only handed out one free pass. The soft-tossing 30-year-old righty has posted an uninspiring 5.45 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 15/12 K/BB ratio across 33 1/3 innings (10 appearances, five starts). It’s unclear whether he’ll remain in the rebuilding Red Sox’ starting rotation over the final three weeks of the regular season, but he’s lined up to take the ball against the Rays at Tropicana Field next weekend. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats. Sep 05 11:43 pm (EST)
- Weber allowed two hits while striking out one over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's spring game against the Orioles.
- Red Sox interim manager Ron Roenicke was asked twice last week about his plans for the fifth starter spot, and he mentioned Weber in both of his answers, Stevie Hewitt of the Boston Herald reports. "He's a guy I like because he's right at you," Roenicke said. "He throws strikes. When his command's good, he gets some easy outs and it's fun to watch him. So we'll figure it out. But I think there's a few guys. It's not just one or two guys."
- Weber was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket ahead of Sunday's 4-3 win over the Angels. He was the pitcher of record in the contest, tossing two scoreless innings in relief to improve his record to 2-2. All Ryan Weber (R) News
