2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Luciano debuted last year with the Giants, and played in 14 games for San Francisco, posting a .231 average and .293 wOBA across 45 plate appearances. He struck out 37.8 percent of the time, and at the higher levels of the minors, his strikeout rate was elevated there, too.

2024 Outlook: It's tough to glean too much from his small sample size in the majors last season, but heading into 2024, while Luciano has above-average raw power, we should temper expectations in terms of his batting average and prepare for a strikeout rate that will hover around 30 percent. Fortunately, he's consistently posted high walk rates in the minors, giving him a slight boost in formats that value OBP compared to only those who value batting average. Luciano should win the shortstop job out of camp, and the upside is there for him, but the growing pains and contact rates could be an issue.
