White Sox signed OF Adam Eaton to a one-year, $7 million contract with an $8.5 million club option for 2022.
The deal was agreed to on Tuesday morning and made official Thursday after Eaton passed the necessary pre-signing physical exam. He will receive a $6 million salary in 2021 and there is a $1 million buyout on the second-year option, thus the $7 million guarantee. Eaton struggled to a rough .226/.285/.384 batting line over 41 games with the Nationals during the shortened 2020 season and his defensive metrics have also shown significant decline, but he's typically been a reliable high-OBP producer in the past and the White Sox will hope that he can rebound at age 32 and further lengthen their already formidable lineup.
