WNBA DFS Playbook August 12: Top DraftKings & FanDuel WNBA DFS Picks

The WNBA regular season ends on Sunday, but we still have two excellent DFS slates. Six of the eight teams on the slate are competing for a playoff seed. Indiana has been eliminated and Dallas is locked into the sixth seed. While we could see those teams play some younger players Friday, there has been no indication of that as of this writing. Be sure to check the latest news prior to tipoff.
GUARDS
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Lexie Hull | IND | WAS | 6600 | 7.24 | 4800 | 7.39 |
Hull has played at least 26 minutes in each of her last two games, averaging 26 fantasy points. Her playing time should be assured with Danielle Robinson out, even if Washington is a tough matchup.
Diamond DeShields | PHO | DAL | 8600 | 23.2 | 5000 | 22.97 |
All of the remaining Phoenix guards are playable with Diana Taurasi and Skylar Diggins-Smith out, but I think DeShields is the best value. She has played at least 32 minutes and averaged 31 fantasy points in her last two games.
Sabrina Ionescu | NY | ATL | 11100 | 39.18 | 8800 | 37.08 |
Ionescu has at least 34.75 fantasy points in six consecutive games. She is the best guard on the slate by far and I am willing to pay a premium for her.
Aari McDonald | ATL | NY | 7700 | 20.43 | 5800 | 20.11 |
McDonald has played at least 26 minutes and scored at least 24 fantasy points in two consecutive games. With Tiffany Hayes and Kristi Wallace still out, McDonald should be one of the safest guards on the slate.
Marina Mabrey | DAL | PHO | 10400 | 25.44 | 7800 | 24.49 |
Mabrey has broken out with Arike Ogunbowale sidelined, scoring at least 32.5 fantasy points in four of her last five games. I would rather pay up for Sabrina Ionescu if I could, but that will be difficult to do, especially on FanDuel.
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Sue Bird | SEA | MIN | 8100 | 21.86 | 5100 | 21.08 |
The Storm seemed to be underpriced on FD all season and while I could certainly argue for Jewell Loyd or Tina Charles, Bird looks like the best fantasy play Friday. She has at least 23 fantasy points in six consecutive games including 29.5 against Minnesota last week. Minnesota has struggled to defend guards all season and Bird is ending her final season on a high note. |
FORWARDS
Forwards | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Elizabeth Williams | WAS | IND | 4600 | 13.11 | 3900 | 13.70 |
Williams will ostly likely take the bench minutes vacated by Myisha Hines-Allen. Williams is averaging 13.1 fantasy points in 14.8 MPG this season and I would take the over on both of those numbers Friday.
Emma Cannon | IND | WAS | 6500 | 11.3 | 5200 | 11.15 |
Cannon has been oustanding the last two games, averaging 29 minutes and 29 fantasy points. This is a tougher matchup, but her minutes should be safe and she should provide nice value.
Breanna Stewart | SEA | MIN | 11300 | 41.2 | 9000 | 41.65 |
Stewart has scored at least 45 fantasy points in three straight games, including one against Minnesota. In three games against the Lynx, Stewart is averaging 46.8 fantasy points.
Monique Billings | ATL | NY | 6800 | 17.49 | 5300 | 17.87 |
We don't really know what to expect in Billings's first game in nearly a month but before she suffered the ankle injury, she had scored at least 19.25 fantasy points in four straight games. She is a bit risky but if she gets her normal minutes, she could be a nice value.
Shakira Austin | WAS | IND | 8800 | 20.38 | 5500 | 20.67 |
She looks like a very nice value on FanDuel but I will consider her on DraftKings as well. Indiana is last in fantasy points allowed to forwards and Austin is averaging 28.4 fantasy points in her last five games. With Myisha Hines-Allen out, Austin should be especially safe.
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Teaira McCowan | DAL | PHO | 10800 | 21.91 | 7500 | 21.21 |
I don't know if I've gotten McCowan correct a single time this season, but she sure looks underpriced on FanDuel. McCowan is averaging 38.3 fantasy points in her last five games and she should continue to drive the offense with Arike Ogunbowale out. |
