MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 7/30

Rangers vs. Angels Predictions

It's going to be a great matchup on the mound tonight as the Rangers and Angels square off, and I can’t wait to wager on it!

Nathan Eovaldi is back on the hill today for the Rangers, and since his return from injury, he has been nearly unhittable! Over his last 23.2 innings pitched, he’s allowed just 15 hits, 6 walks, and the real kicker of 1 earned run! His ERA in the month of July is 0.38, which is insane to go along with his 26 strikeouts. This is all bad news, of course, for the Angels, as since the start of the month, they are striking out 24.4% of the time, and that’s the 5th highest rate in MLB. The Rangers ace isn’t known for racking up Ks like other top pitchers, but with the run he’s on, I’m betting on him to go over 6.5 strikeouts tonight at plus money.

In addition to Eovaldi, I also like the way Jose Soriano has been pitching for the Los Angeles this season, and during this month, he’s started 5 games and given up just a 3.1 ERA and has just 21 hits allowed over 29 innings pitched. The Rangers are below the league average this month in strikeouts at 22.8% as well, so he should be able to whiff some bats. Texas also ranks 23rd in MLB in runs per game, so let’s roll with the pitchers tonight and take the under in this game as well.

Pick: Nathan Eovaldi (TEX) Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+115 on DraftKings)

Pick: Rangers & Angels Under 8.5 Runs (-120 on DraftKings)

Marlins vs. Cardinals Predictions

It’s a matchup between two of the more surprising teams this MLB season, as the Marlins were projected to be one of the worst clubs but sit just 4 games under .500, and the Cardinals are over .500 and in the playoff race! I see some runs in this matchup given the pitching, but let’s dive in deeper.

Miles Mikolas will start for the Cardinals tonight, and he’s had a rough summer on the hill so far with an ERA over 6 since the start of June. Opposing batters are hitting nearly .300 against him and allowing 57 hits over 9 starts, his less than ideal. Look for the young Marlins to jump on him early and often!

On the other side of the matchup is Cal Quantrill, who, to his credit, has played well in July with a 3.66 ERA, but one of the starts came against the Royals, and we know they can’t score runs. He’s extremely poor against right-handed hitting, though, allowing a .349 average and 1.005 OPS on the season, so look for the Cardinals' bats to hammer him tonight.

If you couldn’t tell by now, I am taking the over in this matchup tonight as the hits should be plentiful and balls ought to fly extra far in this summer heat.

Pick: Marlins & Cardinals Over 8.5 Runs (-115 on DraftKings)
