🏒 NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/6
It’s also NHL trade deadline day, which is absolutely worth keeping an eye on for any NHL expert picks. It may not get the headlines that the recent NBA trade deadline or even the more recent NFL trades did, but they can certainly go under the radar and still affect NHL best bets today.
Speaking of which, the aforementioned featured NHL Network is one in which Florida is putting their best foot forward. They were just on the ice last night, but saved netminder Sergei Bobrovsky for tonight’s game against Detroit. That’s arguably the game of the night, but we’re also excited for Avalanche vs. Stars.
We’re going to have a target in this game for our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions, but even without that, these are the two teams atop the Central Division looking to fend off the Minnesota Wild. As for Kirill Kaprizov’s guys, the Wild are also on the ice and available for some NHL best bets today, taking on the Vegas Golden Knights.
As for another Pacific Division frontrunner, Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are hosting the Carolina Hurricanes, which can be argued as a potential Stanley Cup Final preview! As you can see, there’s plenty of awesome matchups for a Friday night and, therefore, plenty to consider for locking in our NHL best bets today.
🔥 Canadiens vs. Ducks Prediction: Montreal ML (-113 at Novig)
One of the matchups that we didn’t mention above is an interconference clash with two teams that are looking to finally get back to the Stanley Cup playoffs. They’re on track to do just that this season, but we’ve got Cole Caufield and company grabbing the road victory as part of our NHL best bets today.
He and Nick Suzuki are a deadly duo with a combined 129 points in 60 games and are a large part of why Montreal has one of the best power play units in the NHL. As the seventh-best right now, that’s great news when facing an Anaheim team that, while much improved, is still allowing the third-most goals per game this season.
We’re going to expand on this matchup further with one of the targets in our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions, but as for the first of our NHL best bets today, we’re on Montreal’s money line (-113 at Novig).
🔥 Wild vs. Golden Knights Prediction: Under 6.5 Goals (-119 at Novig)
Shortly after our first pick gets started is another matchup out west in the desert. Despite coming back from the Winter Olympics with Gold, Jack Eichel’s squad has been a bit rocky, but we won’t need to sweat out a winner here at all. Instead, we’re adding to our NHL best bets today with a total.
Specifically, with a lower-scoring game. With both Eichel and Kaprizov on the ice, we aren’t calling for ZERO goals, but both teams are solid at slowing things down and keeping opponents from finding the back of the net. After all, Minnesota just handled Nikita Kucherov and the Tampa Bay Lightning with relative ease, holding them to just a single goal.
The over/under is 1-1 between these teams this season, but it’s been a while since they faced off. With the way things have been trending with their action between the pipes, we’ve got under 6.5 goals (-119 at Novig) as part of our NHL best bets today.
🏒 Best NHL Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 3/6
We’ve noted several key skaters in our predictions above, so before fully diving into our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions, it’s only fitting to share some popular player props to consider targeting as well:
Anytime Goal Scorer:
- Nathan MacKinnon: +113
- Sam Bennett: +201
Shots on Goal (Over/Under):
- Leon Draisaitl: Over 2.5 (-175) vs. Under 2.5 (+141)
- Kirill Kaprizov: Over 3.5 (-111) vs. Under 3.5 (-111)
Assists (Over/Under):
- Sebastian Aho: Over 0.5 (+105) vs. Under 0.5 (-123)
- Miro Heiskanen: Over 0.5 (+105) vs. Under 0.5 (-123)
🏒 Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks
🏅 Skater of the Day: Cole Caufield
Young stud against the Canucks, who says no? You also saw us backing the Habs with our NHL best bets today, so this skater of the day directly correlates. Again, Anaheim presents a strong matchup for Caufield given their poor goaltending, and their fast play should lead to even more opportunities to make this worth our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions.
That includes shots on goal, so even if we don’t get a multi-point performance from the young stud, there is plenty of fantasy value to be had. Not only that, but both Montreal and Anaheim struggle staying out of the box, so if Caufield and company control themselves on that front, they can put their PP unit to good use.
For the price point compared to even bigger names on the ice tonight, Cole Caufield is kicking off our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions.
🏅 Goalie of the Day: Jake Oettinger
That’s right - goalie of the day is the one going AGAINST the Colorado Avalanche! This will not be a Mikko Rantanen revenge game due to his injury. Roope Hintz is slated to return, but likely not 100% AND the Stars just traded away Michael Bunting yesterday.
In other words, slowing things down to not turn this into a track meet and shootout is the goal for them, hence the addition to our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions. Even without that being the case, Otter is a stud, and he racked up the saves versus the Avs earlier this year. Admittedly, he allowed four goals, but he also came away with 35 saves.
Colorado will always fire at will, and we like Miro Heiskanen in front of him, making Jake Oettinger part of our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions.
🏅 Value Pick of the Day: Moritz Seider
When it comes to our value play of the slate, we’re going to circle back to that NHL Network game of Panthers vs. Red Wings that we’ve been mentioning. While Florida will have Big Bob in the net, unlike last night, they’ve still been so far from the recent champs.
Sure, the lack of Aleksander Barkov is a big factor, but seemingly never having a chance against the Blue Jackets last night and losing four straight has us adding a Red Wing to our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions. We recently did with Lucas Raymond, and now it’s a defenseman on our card.
As far as Detroit skaters go, we only project Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat to out-produce him, but Seider comes with a FAR more valuable salary - just $5,400 at DraftKings. He’s a bit more expensive at FanDuel, but not so much so that we’re leaving Moritz Seider off our NHL DFS cheat sheet predictions.
