Welcome back to the Fantasy Hockey Injury Report. Hockey is back, which means injuries are back too. You can’t avoid them, but we can get a head start and plan around them. The injury report will be out every Tuesday to help you plan the rest of your fantasy hockey week. Let’s take a look at which key players are dealing with injuries.
Nico Hischier - New Jersey Devils - Center
Injury: unspecified, day-to-day.
Things are going from bad to even worse in New Jersey. Former first overall pick Nico Hischier exited last game due to injury and did not return. The team hasn’t given an update on his status, so for now, he’s being considered day-to-day. Fantasy owners shouldn’t start to panic, but it would be nice to know what injury the youngster is dealing with.
Mika Zibanejad - New York Rangers - Center
Injury: flu, day-to-day.
The good news here is that Mika Zibanejad is expected to play Thursday night against the New Jersey Devils. Flu season is right around the corner, so we can expect more players to start getting sick. We should also take this moment to remind everyone, including Zibanejad, to get their regular flu shot this season.
Jordan Eberle - New York Islanders - Winger
Injury: leg, day-to-day.
It looks like there is a good chance that Jordan Eberle misses his second straight game due to a leg injury. The team hasn’t placed the forward on IR, but we do know that head coach Barry Trotz expects Eberle to not be ready for their game against the Jets on Thursday. If you’re in a weekly league, might be a good idea to look for a replacement on the waiver wire.
Alex Galchenyuk - Pittsburgh Penguins - Center
Injury: lower-body, undetermined.
At this rate, we might as well just dedicate an entire section of the injury report to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Alex Galchenyuk is out of the lineup due to a lower-body injury, and it looks like he could be out a while. The Penguins are already short at the center position, and with Galchenyuk now out, the depth at the position is going to be tested. For fantasy owners, it’s best to stash him on the IR and look for a replacement. We should get an update on his status over the next week or two.
Conor Sheary - Buffalo Sabres - Winger
Injury: upper-body, week-to-week.
Buffalo forward Conor Sheary has missed the last three games due to an upper-body injury, and it looks like he will miss Wednesday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks too. The former Penguin had three points in his first three games before going down with his injury. He did skate this morning at practice, but wasn’t skating on a particular line. This is (hopefully) a good sign that he is nearing a return, so fantasy owners in deeper leagues may want to hold onto him for just a little longer.
