When it comes to playing DFS there are often week-to-week fluctuations in pricing for players based on performance and matchups. As we enter Week 5 of the NFL season and examine the NFL DFS Week 5 main slate on DraftKings let’s take a look at some players whose price tag has risen and decide whether or they are now worth spending up for as well as taking a look at those players who are cheaper this week and decide if their new value makes them a worthwhile play with matchups for Dameon Pierce, Tyreek Hill and Derrick Henry worth examining.

DraftKings NFL DFS Week 5 Salary Risers

Dameon Pierce, RB, HOU – $6200

We finally got to see the Dameon Pierce breakout game. The fourth-round pick out of Florida had his best game as a pro last week, rushing for 131 yards (including a 75-yard touchdown) against the Los Angeles Chargers. This is a player with breakaway speed that can run in between tackles and make the defense miss in open field.  His 75-yard breakaway was the third-longest run in Texans history and he caught all six of his targets (eight yards). Pierce has gradually seen his salary rise from a Week 1 price of $4.8K to a season high $6.2K DK this week (up $600 from last week). He is still only the 15th highest priced running back on this week’s slate and is now the unquestioned RB1 in Houston with all of the doubts that he cannot handle a true three-down workload gone to the wayside. Jump on Pierce now as his price will surely rise again if he has another big week.

Tyreek Hill, WR, MIA – $8000

When the Miami Dolphins traded five draft picks for wide receiver Tyreek Hill, we all knew that the Fins were getting one of the best in the game. The Dolphins are now 3-1 and in first place in the AFC East and Hill is on pace to have one of the greatest receiving seasons in franchise history. Reek opened Week 1 at only $6.1K DK but has seen has price gradually increase to a now season-high $8K on DK. Yes, the salary is well earned as Hill has recorded 31 receptions for 477 yards and two touchdowns putting him on pace to finish the year with 132 receptions, 2,027 yards and nine touchdowns. He now faces the Jets defense that is #29 in pass DVOA (26.4%) but there has been a bit of a roadblock as he will have Teddy Bridgewater now throwing to him. Tyreek Hill will put up numbers with me throwing to him and I will not hesitate to play him this week, even with a salary bump.

T.J. Hockenson, TE, DET – $4900

The Lions' tight end saw an $800 shift from Week 4. Hockenson jumped from seventh highest priced TE in Week 4 ($4.1K) to second highest this week ($4.9K) after a huge 43 DKFP game. That’s a big jump and if Amon-Ra St. Brown returns his targets will be sure to take a hit. Hock is in play but paying up now is a bit of a chase.

Miles Sanders, RB, PHI – $6500

The Eagles running back moved up $500 from Week 4. Sanders nearly doubled his total yards from scrimmage from the previous three games last week. He is now $6.5K DK from a $6.0K Week 4 price and with the lack of targets out of the backfield being a bit concerning there are a few cheaper runners I would have my eyes on and that includes Breece Hall and possibly even Damien Harris.

DraftKings NFL DFS Week 5 Salary Fallers

Derrick Henry, RB, TEN – $8200

Henry handled the ball 25 times on Sunday and ended up with 147 total yards and a touchdown in the Titans win against the Colts. This is now two straight weeks that Henry surpassed the century mark in total yardage, and it is safe to say that he is back to high-end RB1 status. Henry has caught eight passes over the last two games which will only heighten his PPR value which is a plus on a PPR site like DraftKings. This is also one of the most game-script dependent RBs in the league as Henry only scored eight and nine DKFPs in Week 1 and 2 losses but in the Week 3 and 4 wins he put up 25 and 27 DKFPs- this week the Titans are currently -2.5 road favorites over Washington. Here is the best part- his salary has dropped a total of $400 since Week 1 and is even down $100 to $8.2K from his $8.3K Week 4 total. This week he is facing a Washington defense that is allowing 19.5 DKFP per game to the RB position (16th in the NFL) and with another immense workload Henry is in play in all formats.

Dalvin Cook, RB, MIN – $7300

Dalvin Cook entered Week 1 of the NFL season with a lofty $7.9K salary on DraftKings but obviously a well-earned price for a career stud runner. He rose to $8.1K in Week 2 but has gradually taken a dip since and is now sitting at a season-low $7.3K. Of course, Cook did not have a huge game last week (11 DKFP) but he did touch the ball 22 times and played 62% of the offensive snaps while dealing with a hurt shoulder. His 76 yards on the ground brings some optimism as the Saints rush defense is good and it also shows us that Kevin O’Connell may be looking towards running the ball more than we all thought he would be this season. Now enter the Bears, the NFL’s worst run defense that has allowed 733 yards on the ground in four weeks. This is a runner that has ran the ball 15.6 times per game (76% of the teams carries) and with a high implied team total (25.5 points) positive regression is well on its way for Cook.

Kyle Pitts, TE, ATL –  $4400

After a $600 drop from Week 4, Pitts is now at a season low $4.4K on DK after only 150 yards and catching 10 of 22 passes through the first four games. Even more alarming is that Pitts ran a route on just 13 of 20 pass plays last week making it very hard for him to succeed in this version of the Falcons offense.

Mike Gesicki, TE, MIA – $3500

The Dolphins tight end saw a $600 drop from Week 4. Gesicki's 23 yards last week were actually his second highest single-game total of the season. Not much of a floor here but I would be willing to take a shot at a $3.5K DK Gesicki facing the NFL’s worst team against the TE fantasy point scoring- the Jets who are allowing an average of 14.1 points to the division.
