I see you shaking your head after last week. If you’re back for more, congratulations on making it through another week. The survivor pool gauntlet this season has been insane.
Week 6 was yet another total bloodbath for entry tickets across the nation after a massive chunk of participants ignored one of the cardinal rules when executing their survivor pool strategy: avoiding divisional games at all costs. The Indianapolis Colts laid a complete egg at home against the Tennessee Titans, while the Los Angeles Rams crumbled against the division-rival Arizona Cardinals. Just how catastrophic were these upsets? The Colts instantly fired general manager Chris Ballard, the guy who gave Daniel Jones an eye-popping two-year, $88M deal with $50M guaranteed, while Rams running back Kyren Williams popped off about his team's personnel decisions throughout the game as he watched far too much from the sidelines during their heartbreaking, survivor pool soul-crushing loss to Arizona.
Fortunately, the other two picks we recommended pulled through: the Kansas City Chiefs handled business over the Chargers (another divisional matchup we luckily got away with) and the San Francisco 49ers dominated the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football. As we turn our attention to the slate ahead, finding the right survivor pool picks is critical to keeping your entry alive.
Best NFL Survivor Pool Strategy For 2026 NFL Week 7
Our overall best survivor pool strategy remains the same from week to week, if we can stick to it. We try to maintain the core strategy of picking home teams with favorable point spreads while strictly avoiding Thursday Night Football, most road teams, and most divisional matchups.
On a personal survivor note, I do have one survivor entry left. Granted, it's a pool that allows one buyback up through Week 8, so my Colts pick is forgiven, but I'm still alive. In the five other survivor pools in which I play, including the two contests Fantasy Alarm sponsored at Splash Sports, I am dead in the water. Rose wouldn’t let me lay on the door with her. I still can't use any of the teams I used before, so the Raiders, Chiefs, 49ers, Ravens, Jaguars, and Colts are no longer available, but forward we move. Wish me luck! Now, before I give you my lean, I will update the pool over on Pool Genius and show you what the data is telling me to do.

Looking at the Pool Genius breakdown for Week 7, the Houston Texans sit comfortably at the top with a 100 Grade, leading all teams with an 83% PG win probability, a -10.0 spread (-508 Money Line), and a 1.10 PG EV despite a heavy 33% popularity. The Minnesota Vikings rank second with a 97 Grade (71% win odds, -6.5 spread, 19% popularity). Interestingly, Pool Genius rates the Dallas Cowboys #3 with a 94 Grade and a 1.01 PG EV, ahead of the New York Jets (#4 Grade: 93, PG EV: 0.94) because of higher Expected Value and lower public popularity (4% vs. 15%).
NFL Survivor Pool Picks for Week 7
Houston Texans vs. New York Giants: Pick Texans
This is likely the chalk pick of the week as the Texans are favored by 10.5 points with a -535 moneyline, making them the largest favorite on the board. The pick also satisfies our core criteria as the Texans are playing at home in Houston, and this is a non-divisional matchup. C.J. Stroud and the Texans' offense have been humming, while the defense continues to harass opposing pocket passers with continuous pressure. DeMeco Ryans taking over defensive play-calling duties has been transformative.
The Giants continue to struggle with offensive line protection and consistent play-making downfield, giving Houston an overwhelming advantage on both sides of the ball. It doesn't mean we aren't nervous still, right? Given the wild upsets we've seen already, no double-digit favorite feels 100-percent immune. However, when evaluating all your survivor pool picks this week, Houston offers the highest baseline floor on the board. This looks like my choice for my survivor pool pick this week.
Minnesota Vikings vs. Indianapolis Colts: Pick Vikings
The Vikings come into Week 7 as a 6.5-point home favorite with a -290 moneyline. They are coming off a well-timed bye week, giving them extra time to prepare while resting key starters. Brian Flores remains one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL, routinely dialing up exotic blitzes and disguised coverage looks that baffle opposing quarterbacks.
On the other side, the Colts are in complete disarray following the firing of GM Chris Ballard. Historically, while a team might occasionally rally for a single game following the firing of a head coach, players rarely summon extra emotional juice on the field for a fired general manager. Facing a fresh, highly schemed Vikings defense on the road in Minnesota is a nightmare scenario for Indianapolis right now.
New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins: Pick Jets
The Jets are a 4.5-point home favorite with a -225 moneyline. We've targeted against the winless Dolphins consistently this season, as Miami's offense has struggled to find rhythm and their defense has leaked big plays. However, this is a heated AFC East divisional matchup, and Miami is coming off their bye week with extra time to tweak their playbook and adjust their scheme. Do we stay with our core criteria and avoid the divisional rivalry, or do we continue to target the struggling Dolphins? While the matchup is tempting, divisional games have repeatedly destroyed brackets this year. If you have safer non-divisional home favorites available, this isn't the spot where you need to force a pick.
Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles: Pick Cowboys
I'm only showing this because, as you see from the above image, our friends at Pool Genius recommend the Cowboys over the Jets due to a superior 1.01 EV rating and a low 4% selection popularity. But while the Eagles are genuinely falling apart in several defensive metrics, the Cowboys are extremely tough to trust given their recent volatile performances and defensive inconsistency. Furthermore, this is a road game in a hostile environment and a fierce NFC East divisional clash. When building a sustainable survivor pool strategy, taking unnecessary risks on road divisional underdogs or slim road favorites is how entries get eliminated early. Why tempt fate when cleaner home options are sitting right in front of you?
