We cover the basics in our Weekly Waiver Wire Article. But Fantasy Alarm members are a different breed. Real sick individuals, like myself. We play in incredibly deep leagues and crazy formats, like the Scott Fish Bowl. We can’t help it. So we need to go DEEPER than just the basics. And that’s where the waiver wire streamers and stashes article comes in.
Here we get to the next layer of the waiver wire. We hit those “break glass in case of emergency” streamers for a desperate lineup decision. And we cover those deep sleeper stashes, to hold with only a hope and a prayer. As deep as you want to go, we will go.
Best Fantasy Football Streamers and Stashes For Week 8
What is a Streamer?
A streamer is a player that you can actually start in your lineup currently. They might not be the flashiest players, but they won’t get you a zero. In deeper leagues with a lot of starting spots, you may need to call on them from time to time - especially when bye weeks and injuries come around.
What is a Stash?
The stashes are players that have appealing upside for one reason or another but aren’t reliable guys you can start now. Maybe they are injured, and you can put them in an IR spot. Maybe they are handcuffs that could have big upside if the starter gets hurt. Maybe they are rookies that need time to develop and carve out a role. Whatever it is, we want to keep an eye on them. And stash them on deep benches.
NFL Week 8 Quarterback Streamers
Jacoby Brissett - Arizona Cardinals, Yahoo: 27% | ESPN: 20% | Sleeper: 24%
We could have another Jacoby Brissett streaming week on our hands. The Cardinals head down to Jerry World to face the Cowboys in a game that has a whopping 54.5-point over/under. The Cowboys are favored but not by a total that suggests the Cardinals can’t push back. This guy can be an absolute wild card but, when it breaks right, there is a ton of upside there. So he’s on the table here.
Malik Willis - Miami Dolphins, Yahoo: 18% | ESPN: 6% | Sleeper: 15%
Malik Willis is both an interesting spot start and an interesting stash for us. He’s finally running a little bit more and has scored rushing touchdowns in back-to-back games. After getting Caleb Douglas back from injury, he also just threw his first two-touchdown game. The Patriots aren’t the best matchup here, but if we are doing a spot start for a bye week, we like throwing mobile guys in there and hoping for a big day. The rushing TD is the cheat code to a three- or even four-touchdown day.
- Honorable Mention or Deep League Options: Michael Penix, Sam Darnold
NFL Week 8 Quarterback Stashes
Deshaun Watson - Cleveland Browns, Yahoo: 13% | ESPN: 13% | Sleeper: 18%
Deshaun Watson is still on the streaming radar, but we’d rather stash him until everything truly comes together. As we mentioned in the main article, the rush attempts have already been there. This week he threw for 300+ yards and also scored a rushing touchdown, both firsts for him on the season. His rookie WRs are starting to take off. And the Browns schedule is pretty good the rest of the way. If everything breaks right, this guy could start putting up numbers.
Fernando Mendoza - Las Vegas Raiders, Yahoo: 5% | ESPN: 3% | Sleeper: 11%
The Raiders claim that Kirk Cousins is playing high-level ball. They are also saying that the Raiders are “still in the hunt”. Well, they have lost four straight. You can only lose so many games and remain “in the hunt”. Even if it’s not Kirk Cousins’s fault, Mendoza will get a shot if/when they are eliminated from playoff contention. And who knows what could happen then. They get the Jets this week, followed by the 49ers, Seahawks, and Broncos, so some rough defenses on there.
Superflex Special: Cole Payton, Philadelphia Eagles
In superflex leagues, especially deeper ones, there are two things we prioritize in a backup QB. The first, and most important, is how close the starter is to getting benched. It needs to be on the table; otherwise, we are just handcuffing. The second is what kind of upside the backup actually has, and that is usually tied to rushing. With Tanner McKee currently starting and Cole Payton having a well-documented history of running during his time in college, he is currently our favorite stash from the backups.
- Honorable Mention: Malik Willis
NFL Week 8 Running Back Streamers
Jonah Coleman - Denver Broncos, Yahoo: 28% | ESPN: 20% | Sleeper: 37%
In the main article, we made it clear that Jonah Coleman is our top add. He is the best combination of both streaming potential and long-term upside. This might just be a big split, but anytime a guy has a chance to run with the starting RB job, we need to take that shot.
Zonovan Knight - Arizona Cardinals, Yahoo: 4% | ESPN: 2% | Sleeper: 10%
We have to pay close attention to the news all day on Tuesday, so see if we can get on read on whether or not Jeremiyah Love is playing. If he’s out again, Zonovan Knight will be very much on the table again this week, as he’s been outplaying Tyler Allgeier and now he’s outsnapping him as well.
- Honorable Mentions: Zonovan Knight, Rico Dowdle, Samaje Perine
NFL Week 8 Running Back Stashes
Jonah Coleman - Denver Broncos, Yahoo: 28% | ESPN: 20% | Sleeper: 37%
As we mentioned, Jonah Coleman is also our top stash. Just want to make that clear.
Kaelon Black - San Francisco 49ers, Yahoo: 28% | ESPN: 22% | Sleeper: 31%
He has his bye week this week, so there is obviously zero streaming value. But Christian McCaffrey is clearly going through some stuff this year healthwise. He left the game briefly just this past week. Black was already a top handcuff, and these health questions only add to that.
Seth McGowan, Indianapolis Colts, Yahoo: 7% | ESPN: 8% | Sleeper: 14%
We are stashing Seth McGowan in deep leagues in case Jonathan Taylor gets traded. Simple as that. Tank Bigsby can be stashed for the same reason in case Saquon Barkley gets traded.
Mike Washington Jr., Las Vegas Raiders - Yahoo: 30% | ESPN: 19% | Sleeper: 35%
We mentioned this one last week as well - Ashton Jeanty is clearly not healthy. This week, despite Mike Washington dealing with his own issues, he managed to split the carries to some degree and even finish with more rushing yards than Jeanty. If Mike Washington can miss most of the practices this week yet they still decide to mix him with Jeanty, we have to wonder what exactly is going on with Jeanty’s health.
Tyler Goodson, Dallas Cowboys, Yahoo: 0% | ESPN: 0% | Sleeper: 0%
We are just going to leave Tyler Goodson in this section of the article until something changes. Because it seems no one respects the handcuff upside this guy currently has behind Javonte Williams.
- Honorable Mentions: Brian Robinson, Emmett Johnson, Chris Rodriguez, Tank Bigsby
NFL Week 8 Wide Receiver Streamers
Caleb Douglas - Miami Dolphins, Yahoo: 0% | ESPN: 0% | Sleeper: 3%
Some rookies like KC Concepcion, Germie Bernard, and Omar Cooper Jr. are now rostered in too many leagues for the Streamers and Stashes article. But Caleb Douglas is the hot new ticket from the rookie WR group as he took back his WR2 status this week when he returned to the Dolphins. He already popped off, so he’s one of our top adds in general.
Kendrick Bourne - Arizona Cardinals, Yahoo: 7% | ESPN: 5% | Sleeper: 32%
Bourne has already been a staple in this article. He probably would have been in it regardless with the Cowboys game. But now, with Jalen Brooks having season-ending wrist surgery, he’s definitely in it. The Cardinals will likely use Simi Fehoko on the outside as well as more Elijah Higgins in two TE sets (or maybe some combination of the two), but Bourne is now clearly the third target in what should be a shootout.
- Honorable Mentions: Jahan Dotson, DeMario Douglas, Tory Horton
NFL Week 8 Wide Receiver Stashes
Caleb Douglas - Miami Dolphins, Yahoo: 10% | ESPN: 10% | Sleeper: 19%
Douglas is the top streamer and top stash, plus he’s rostered in few enough leagues to be included in this article. Great news.
Ja’Kobi Lane - Baltimore Ravens, Yahoo: 17% | ESPN: 28% | Sleeper: 35%
As we mentioned in the main article, we are still trying to get Ja’Kobi Lane stashed wherever possible in case he breaks out. Zay Flowers has looked fantastic, but Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman have not been particularly inspiring with the ball in their hands. Ja’Kobi Lane has actually played slightly more snaps and got more targets than Bateman this week, but it’s what happens when Lamar Jackson gets back that is more appealing.
Travis Hunter - Jacksonville Jaguars Yahoo: 9% | ESPN: 11% | Sleeper: 15%
I know, I know. Howard Bender probably isn’t going to approve of this one. But this kid looked good last year on offense before he suffered his season-ending injury. He actually DID get up to a pretty big snap share. And he’s looked electric with the ball in his hands, even when he gets it on defense. We just can’t help but wonder what the upside could be if he plays more offense. The Brian Thomas trade rumors are still swirling too.
IR Spot Special: Pat Bryant, Denver Broncos
We had De’Zhaun Stribling as our IR spot special, and he’s still a good stash. But a potential chest injury to Jaylen Waddle has us looking to sneak Bryant into IR spots now in case Waddle misses serious time and Bryant comes back. He looked pretty good before he got hurt.
- Honorable Mentions: Antonio Williams, De'Zhaun Stribling (IR spot), Tre' Harris (IR spot)
NFL Week 8 Tight End Streamers
Chig Okonkwo - Washington Commanders, Yahoo: 32% | ESPN: 27% | Sleeper: 47%
Like Jonah Coleman and Caleb Douglas, Chig Okonkwo is our top stream and our top stash in this article as well. That’s what happens when our top option also happens to be available in a lot of leagues. Brenton Strange is rostered closer to 50%, so he doesn’t make the cut for this article.
Greg Dulcich - Miami Dolphins, Yahoo: 4% | ESPN: 1% | Sleeper: 5%
We have talked at length about Dulcich being a player we are interested in stashing while the Dolphins figure things out. He’s come on a little bit lately, but this matchup with the Patriots is a pretty bad one for tight ends, so we would rather not start him unless we have to. But if you are holding Isaiah Likely or George Kittle through the bye, we might just use Dulcich to see if he can string multiple good weeks together here.
- Honorable Mentions: Mason Taylor, Michael Mayer, Mike Gesicki
NFL Week 8 Tight End Stashes
Chig Okonkwo - Washington Commanders, Yahoo: 17% | ESPN: 5% | Sleeper: 15%
Same situation with Chig - with Terry McLaurin out, we really want to see what happens next.
Greg Dulcich - Miami Dolphins, Yahoo: 4% | ESPN: 1% | Sleeper: 5%
As we mentioned above, we would rather stash Dulcich than start him.
Terrance Ferguson - Los Angeles Rams, Yahoo: 15% | ESPN: 12% | Sleeper: 20%
Terrance Ferguson was in this article last week too after the Davante Adams injury. He needs to get healthy himself, but there is a lot of upside there if/when that happens.
- Honorable Mentions: Matt Hibner, Elijah Higgins, Eli Raridon, Kenyon Sadiq
