NFL DFS Week 9 RB Coach: Jonathan Taylor, Kimani Vidal, Chase Brown
Welcome to the Week 9 NFL DFS RB Coach article!! Looking back at Week 8’s results, it’s now painfully obvious that I never should have recommended putting Alvin Kamara in NFL DFS lineups. Whether it’s injuries, his offensive line, or just father time catching up to him, it might be a while before I use Kamara in any of my NFL DFS lineups again. Bijan Robinson and Josh Jacobs were two other Week 8 NFL DFS RB recommendations that disappointed. At least Jonathan Taylor, De’Von Achane, Derrick Henry, J.K. Dobbins, and D’Andre Swift all thankfully did not.
NFL DFS Week 9 RB Coach for FanDuel & DraftKings Fantasy
Fresh off of Week 8’s bye-mageddon, having only four teams on a bye in Week 9 seems like a gift. Yet, there are running backs that I’m not comfortable adding to NFL DFS lineups this week. Check out some of those names below before we dive into the NFL DFS Week 9 RB Coach. There are several NFL DFS RBs that I do feel strongly about recommending in Week 9. Below are some of my favorites, featuring Jonathan Taylor, Kimani Vidal, and Chase Brown!
NFL Week 9 Running Backs
It sounds like the Carolina Panthers are ready to make Rico Dowdle their primary back, but seeing is believing. Carolina Panthers NFL DFS RBs have a very tough matchup against the Green Bay Packers in Week 9, and I’m going to wait a week before recommending that Dowdle be used in NFL DFS lineups.
I’m also avoiding Minnesota Vikings NFL DFS RBs this week. After Week 8, it appears that Aaron Jones will be the team’s primary RB, but Jordan Mason will likely continue to have a significant role in the Vikings’ backfield. Vikings NFL DFS RBs take on the Detroit Lions in Week 9, and they’ve been very tough against the run.
D'Andre Swift has a great matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9. I’d love to use him in my NFL DFS lineups, but he’s dealing with a nagging groin injury. We’ve already seen Kyle Monangi’s snap rate increase over the past few weeks, and Swift played a season low 49.2 percent of the Bears’ offensive snaps in Week 8. I’m concerned that Swift's snaps may continue to be limited until he’s fully healthy.
The New York Giants have a new primary NFL DFS RB in Tyrone Tracy. He’s a very affordable Week 9 option (DK $5,100/FD $6,000) and takes on the San Francisco 49ers, who’ve given up the second most receptions (43) to NFL DFS RBs this season. I might use Tracy Jr. in one or two of my DFS lineups this weekend, but he’s not an NFL DFS RB that I feel particularly strongly about recommending just yet.
NFL DFS RB Top Tier Picks For Week 9
Jonathan Taylor, RB, Indianapolis Colts
DraftKings: $9,800 | FanDuel: $11,000
Simply put, if you can afford to absorb Taylor’s justifiably high NFL DFS salary, then you should include him in your DFS lineup every week. He’s matchup-proof and leads NFL DFS RBs in several categories. Taylor has scored at least three total TDs in four different games this season.
Christian McCaffrey, RB, San Francisco 49ers
DraftKings: $8,800 | FanDuel: $9,500
It was an unusual Week 8 for McCaffrey, as he posted single-digit NFL DFS fantasy points under both DraftKings and FanDuel formats for the first time this season. McCaffrey should be able to bounce back against the New York Giants in Week 9. The Giants have been manhandled by NFL DFS RBs this season, giving up 6.11 YPC, and they’ve given up the fifth most PPR fantasy points per game (24.8) to the position.
NFL DFS RB Mid-Tier Picks For Week 9
Javonte Williams, RB, Dallas Cowboys
DraftKings: $7,000 | FanDuel: $ 8,500
Williams may have only rushed for 41 yards in Week 8, but he did score two TDs. He now has eight on the season and is averaging 5.1 YPC. Williams has a good matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, who have given up 4.46 YPC and five TDs over their last four games.
Derrick Henry, RB, Baltimore Ravens
DraftKings: $6,500 | FanDuel: $ 8,800
Henry’s YPC average in Week 8 was a subpar 3.4, but he did score two TDs against the Chicago Bears. In Week 9, he takes on the Miami Dolphins, who have given up 5.0 YPC to NFL DFS RBs and the fourth most PPR fantasy points per game this season. Henry’s NFL DFS salary is starting to creep back up, but is still very attractive based on his potential upside in Week 9.
Kimani Vidal, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
DraftKings: $6,300 | FanDuel: $ 7,700
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was quoted as saying that Vidal is “playing like a number one back in the NFL”. In the three weeks since he’s been the Chargers’ primary NFL DFS RB, Vidal is averaging 5.2 YPC, and he has scored two total TDs. To the naked eye, he has also looked very good in pass protection, which will help him to keep his job for the near future. He has a great matchup against the Tennessee Titans, who have given up the most total TDs (14) and the second most PPR fantasy points per game (28.6) to NFL DFS RBs this season.
NFL Week 9 DFS RB Value Picks
Chase Brown, RB, Cincinnati Bengals
DraftKings: $5,900 | FanDuel: $ 7,200
Brown is finally starting to resemble the NFL DFS RB who emerged as a dependable DFS option last season. In his last three games, Brown has averaged 7.0 YPC, and he has scored two total TDs. Brown takes on the Chicago Bears in Week 9, and over the past five weeks, they’ve given up 5.03 YPC to NFL DFS RBs.
Zonovan Knight, RB, Arizona Cardinals
DraftKings: $5,000 | FanDuel: $ 5,900
I have to admit that this suggestion comes with some risk, but with the Cardinals moving Michael Carter to their practice squad, it’s clear that Knight will be their primary NFL DFS RB for Week 9. Knight has the opportunity for a big week against a Dallas Cowboys run defense that has given up 5.65 YPC, eight total TDs, and the most PPR fantasy points per game to NFL DFS RBs over the past five weeks.
