Welcome to the 2026 Week 4 RB Handcuff Report! With at least two, and possibly more, fantasy football running backs set to miss time due to injuries, Week 4 running back handcuffs could significantly affect fantasy football lineups for this week and beyond.

We’ve got some great resources at Fantasy Alarm that can help you maintain a competitive fantasy football roster. Jacob Parry covers all of the latest injury news from a fantasy football perspective in his must-read NFL Week 4 Injury Report, and Andrew Cooper has some great advice on how to replenish your fantasy football roster in his Week 4 Waiver Wire article.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the fantasy football running back handcuffs that should be on your radar as you prepare to set your lineups ahead of your Week 4 fantasy football matchup.

2026 Fantasy Football Week 4 Running Back Handcuff Report

Dolphins RB De’Von Achane, who was a first-round pick in many preseason fantasy football drafts, suffered a torn ACL in Week 3, which ended his 2026 season. Fantasy football managers have been scrambling to figure out if Ollie Gordon or Jaylen Wright should be the priority Dolphins fantasy football Week 4 running back handcuff to roster, and for the short term, Gordon might be the better option. He scored a TD and caught three passes in Week 3. With Wright inactive in Week 3 due to a stinger and foot injury, he’s a bit of a risk for this week, and you’ll need to monitor his progress as kickoff approaches. As recently as Monday, head coach Jeff Hafley characterized Wright as day-to-day. We fantasy football managers tend to invest a lot of our FAAB whenever a potential lead back is available on the waiver wire. However, Achane, who is a top-tier fantasy football running back, has struggled in the Dolphins’ offense this season. Perhaps we should temper our expectations for any Week 4 running back handcuff who eventually replaces him.

Many football managers drafted Travis Etienne expecting him to be the Saints’ lead back, but he hasn’t exactly been a bell cow running back this season. In Week 1, Etienne split early down carries with Kendre Miller, and in Week 2, he split early down carries with Alvin Kamara. The Saints’ recent unofficial depth chart lists Etienne and Kamara as co-RB1s, but with Etienne expected to miss time due to a hamstring injury, Kamara could be the team’s lead back for the short term. That would likely make Kendre Miller the Saints’ fantasy football Week 4 running back handcuff, with CJ Donaldson potentially mixing in on passing downs.

Jets RB Breece Hall is dealing with a thigh injury that caused him to exit his Week 3 matchup against the Lions in the fourth quarter. An MRI didn’t reveal any serious damage, and it appears that Hall won’t be placed on IR. He’s reportedly considered week to week. Look for updates from the Jets regarding Hall’s Week 4 availability as kickoff approaches, but if you roster him, do your best to get Braelon Allen, Hall’s fantasy football Week 4 running back handcuff, on your roster. If Hall is inactive in Week 4, Allen would likely be the Jets’ early down back, with Isaiah Davis getting reps on passing downs and filling the role of Allen’s fantasy football Week 4 running back handcuff.

Tyler Allgeier is back in a familiar role as a fantasy football Week 4 running back handcuff. He’s listed behind Jeremiyah Love on the Cardinals’ depth chart and played a season-low 35.6% of the team’s offensive snaps in Week 3. Love played a season-high 64.4% of the Cardinals’ offensive snaps and had a productive Week 3, rushing for 90 yards (4.3 YPC), and he also pulled in five receptions and a receiving TD. Allgeier was also involved in the Cards’ passing game last week. He ran 20 routes, which were just two fewer than Love, and he caught four passes in Week 3 as well.

Keep an eye on Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving as Week 4 kickoff approaches. He missed the final two possessions of his Week 3 matchup against the Vikings, but per Buccaneers.com senior writer and editor Scott Smith, the Bucs did not include him in their post-game injury report. Prior to Week 3, Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson told the media that Irving would be on a "pitch count" and that his workload would be managed in order to keep him fresh throughout the 2026 season.  Robinson also suggested that he might use an in-game hot hand approach to managing the Bucs’ running game. Irving played a season-low 52.2% of the Buccaneers’ offensive snaps in Week 3, and his 2026 fantasy football running back handcuff Kenneth Gainwell played a season-high 46.4% of offensive snaps. Gainwell has just 10 carries this season and has only rushed for 2.1 YPC, but based on Robinson’s comments, his role could increase as the season progresses.

How to Find the Best RB Handcuffs

Changes in offensive snap-count rates are often a good way of identifying up-and-coming fantasy football RB handcuffs.

I have to admit that so far, my call on Kimani Vidal being the better 2026 fantasy football running back handcuff in the Chargers’ backfield hasn’t aged well. However, Vidal has proven that he can manage a full workload when needed, and his Week 3 24.6% offensive snap rate more than doubled his Week 2 rate.

For now, Keaton Mitchell seems to be the Chargers RB who is gaining the most momentum, and he should be considered the team’s fantasy football Week 4 running back handcuff. Omarion Hampton is still the team’s lead back, but his Week 3 42% offensive snap rate was his lowest of the season, and while his 15 carries dwarfed Mitchell’s eight, he’s only averaging 3.9 YPC compared to Mitchell’s 5.0 YPC.

Top 5 RB Handcuffs for 2026 Ahead of Week 4

Najee Harris, Giants

The Giants ran the ball just under 57% of the time in Week 3, and with Jameis Winston under center, they will continue to implement a run-heavy offense. Harris ran the ball nine times in Week 3 and was very effective (5.8 YPC). Cam Skattebo continues to run with reckless abandon, leaving himself open to potential injuries, and should he become unavailable, it appears that Harris would be his fantasy football Week 4 running back handcuff.

Mike Washington Jr., Raiders

You wouldn’t know it from his usage so far this season (79.6% average offensive snaps played, 21 average carries per game), but Jeanty is hurting. He’s playing through it, but he was seen limping off the field and had both ankles taped during his Week 3 matchup against the Saints. Washington Jr. has had limited carries (15) this season but is averaging 6.8 YPA, and according to head coach Klint Kubiak, he has earned more carries.

Kyle Monangai, Bears

The Bears are running the ball more this season, in part due to QB Caleb Williams’ injury, and will likely continue to do so. Monangai has 10 carries in each of his first three games, and should D’Andre Swift be unavailable, he is a fantasy football running back handcuff who’d be able to immediately step in and take over as the team’s lead running back.

Tyler Goodson, Cowboys

It appears that Goodson has taken over as the Cowboys’ fantasy football Week 4 running back handcuff. It’s a situation that needs to be monitored heading into Week 4 action, but Emari Demercado, who had been lead back Javonte Williams’ RB handcuff, was a healthy scratch ahead of Week 3.

Emmett Johnson, Chiefs

With Kenneth Walker and running the football being such a huge part of the Chiefs’ 2026 offense, Johnson would have a huge role if Walker were unavailable.
