Jaguars vs. Broncos Predictions For Sunday 1:00 PM ET, NFL Week 16
These teams have crossed paths a couple times over the past five years but not since 2022. The Broncos won both of the most recent games with a 21-17 victory in 2022 and a 23-3 victory in 2021.
The Jaguars have been one of the hottest teams in football lately. Their current five-game winning streak has landed them at 10-4. That puts them one game ahead of the Texans and two games ahead of the Colts for the AFC South. The Broncos, however, have THE best record in football at 12-2. They’ve won 11 straight games and have not lost at home this year.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence Catching Stride
Trevor Lawrence has always had the raw ability. He’s made a number of incredible throws that other quarterbacks couldn’t possibly make, especially on the run. But the guidance he’s had for much of his career has been subpar. Now that he’s united with Liam Coen, he seems to be reaching another level. Which is exactly what the Jaguars had hoped for - like Coen did with Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay.
The Jaguars' defense has been a bit one-sided. On one hand, they are allowing the fewest rush yards per game of any team at only 86.3. On the flip side, they’ve allowed over 220 yards per game passing. So teams come into these matchups with the Jaguars knowing the path of least resistance.
Denver Broncos: The Hottest Team In Football
The Denver Broncos aren’t really overwhelming teams. And their brand of football isn’t flashy. But it’s certainly working. Bo Nix has been taking good care of the ball, especially lately. Courtland Sutton always seems to heat up this time of year. And, despite starting down the depth chart, rookie running back RJ Harvey has managed to score 10 touchdowns on the season.
The Broncos' defense is one of the best units in the NFL. They struggled for a spell there without Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain at their disposal. They’ve been especially good at getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks where they are averaging a league-leading 4.1 sacks per game. In fact, only two other teams are averaging more than three sacks per game - the Falcons and Browns who sit at 3.4 sacks.

We don’t necessarily believe in “revenge games”. Or at least it wouldn’t be our only narrative for a pick. But there has been a little something to that with Sean Payton at times. Whether it’s extra motivation or not, he seems to lean into it. For instance, the one game all year Evan Engram technically “started” was against his former team the New York Giants. And he got eight targets in that game, catching five of them for 42 yards.
But that’s not the only narrative at work here. The Jaguars have struggled against the pass and notably, the tight end. They’ve been bottom-five in receptions allowed to tight ends this year and bottom-eight in fantasy points per game allowed. Evan Engram has been utilized at a higher level against teams that have struggled against the tight end as well, like the Washington Commanders where Engram recently got six catches on targets targets for 79 yards.
All that comes together with a pretty good narrative for Evan Engram. The Jags are good vs. the run. They’re bad vs. the tight end. And it’s an Evan Engram against his former team. Let’s see if Sean Payton let’s him get his revenge.
