NFL Training Camp Updates, Live News, Injuries: Shedeur Sanders Impresses

Cleveland Browns QB Battle Update - Shedeur Sanders Shows Out

Fifth-round rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been a regular in our NFL Training Camp Updates thus far, and he made it pay off after an impressive preseason debut where he went 14/23 passing for 138 yards and two touchdowns on his way to a 30 to 10 win over the Carolina Panthers. Despite the impressive performance, though, the quarterback battle continues in Cleveland.

In today's practice, Joe Flacco returned to his now normal QB1 duties, taking every snap with the first team, while Sanders and fellow rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel rotated between the second and third team offenses.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski has yet to decide a starting quarterback for his next preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, nor a regular season starter, but he did note that he will have a better idea of when he's ready to name a Week 1 starter following Saturday's preseason action.

Dallas Cowboys RB Battle Update - Javonte Williams Leads the Pack

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys opened their preseason with a matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, where they were defeated 31-21. While most starting spots on offense are already set in stone for Dallas, their running back room has been a topic of discussion, featuring names like Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, and standout fifth-round rookie Jaydon Blue

Even though none of these running backs saw a carry in the preseason opener, they are likely going to be the three lead backs for the Cowboys. So far into camp, though, it looks like Williams is the clear RB1, receiving most of the first-team work. That being said, both Blue and Sanders are currently dealing with injuries and could make a push for the starting spot upon their respective returns to the practice field.

Houston Texans WR Room - John Metchie Impressing

Moving from one Texas-based team to another, the Houston Texans have quietly been having a competition at the wide receiver position behind their star, Nico Collins. During the offseason, the Texans brought in several receivers to fill out the position group, including rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylen Noel, and veterans Christian Kirk and Justin Watson. With so many players now in the room, even with the losses of Stefon Diggs to the New England Patriots and Tank Dell to injury, some of the incumbent receivers are starting to feel the heat, including fourth-year receiver John Metchie

Metchie has yet to make a major impact on the Texans thus far in his tenure, but he has reportedly been making plays during practices and led the team in receiving during their preseason loss against the Minnesota Vikings. Rookie Jayden Higgins has also been turning heads during camp, almost solidifying his starting spot across from Collins.

NFL Training Camp Highlights - Jimmy Horn Makes Plays

Around the league, there are plenty of receivers making plays outside of the Houston Texans. Today, we look into the Panthers' wide receiver room, where there are also a lot of receivers looking to show out. So far in NFL Training Camps, rookie Tetairoa McMillan has been making highlight plays, but today there were two different standouts: rookie Jimmy Horn and second-year receiver Jalen Coker. Horn has been impressing all camp with his veteran-like route-running ability.

Meanwhile, after going undrafted last year, Jalen Coker has developed a sort of cult following among Panthers and NFL fans alike. Thus far into training camp, he has been fighting to keep a relevant role on this team, scoring a touchdown in the Panthers' preseason game against the Cleveland Browns and making big plays today during camp. Coker could be a sneaky contributor for an up-and-coming offense this season, as he is likely now a lock for the 53-man roster.

NFL Training Camp Injury Update & Transactions: Matthew Stafford Injury Concerns

Matthew Stafford Injury Update

This has been a strange offseason for Matthew Stafford and the Rams. Early in the offseason, head coach Sean McVay downplayed Stafford's absence from practice, saying they wanted to be cautious with the 37-year-old quarterback. Then, information got out that Stafford aggravated a disc in his back that required epidurals to aid with the pain. Despite this, it was reported that Stafford would return to practice today in limited capacity. Unfortunately, Stafford did not suit up for practice, saying he did not "feel good enough." Even with lingering concerns, surgery has not entered the conversation, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Landon Dickerson Injury Update

Superstar guard Landon Dickerson had to be carted out of Philadelphia Eagles training camp practice yesterday with an apparent knee injury that he could not put any weight on. Today, it is reported that it is a meniscus injury that will require a minor procedure. Dickerson is considered week-to-week, which is relatively good news for the Eagles, who potentially could see their guard suit up for Week One.

Alexander Mattison Injury Update

Miami Dolphins running back Alexander Mattison underwent season-ending neck surgery after getting hurt during the Dolphins' preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. Mattison was working for a role as the Dolphins' RB2/goal-line back. In response, the Dolphins have brought in running backs to work out and signed Aaron Shampklin.

Rachaad White Injury Update

What was worried to be a longer-term injury that could lead to more opportunities for fellow running backs Sean Tucker and Bucky Irving, it is now being reported that Rachaad White is only considered day-to-day with a hamstring injury.
