🤔 NFL Training Camp Updates for Today, 8/24
Outside of some fun preseason action this weekend, the injury scare surrounding Ashton Jeanty was the biggest headline from yesterday. Hope you are waiting until next weekend for your fantasy football drafts! Today, we got some clarity surrounding one of the remaining quarterback battles in NFL training camp, along with a fairly significant trade. So without further ado, let’s dive into our NFL training camp report for today!
🏈 NFL Training Camp Live News - Kayshon Boutte Traded to Houston Texans
New England Patriots Trade Kayshon Boutte to Houston Texans
Massive news for Texans fans, NFL futures bettors, or fantasy football fans alike: the New England Patriots have traded wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In return, the Patriots received a 2028 7th-round pick and second-year safety Jaylen Reed.
With the Texans’ second-year receiver Jayden Higgins recently going down with a season-ending injury, the Texans were in dire need of help at wide receiver. Now, Boutte should quickly slot in as a reliable weapon for quarterback C.J. Stroud across from star WR Nico Collins.
In return, the Patriots get some help in their secondary, as Jaylen Reed showed promise in a limited sample size on an extremely talented Texans defense.
Deshaun Watson Named Cleveland Browns QB1
Well, this has certainly been one of the quarterback battles of all time. This morning, Cleveland Browns Head Coach Todd Monken has officially announced that Deshaun Watson will be the team’s starting quarterback this season.
Watson last played for the Browns in 2024, when he threw for five touchdowns and three interceptions across seven games (1-6 record) before suffering a season-ending injury. Watson is now hopeful to bounce back from some lackluster quarterback play. Shedeur Sanders will serve as his backup.
Watson was under some heat recently when he had an emotional reaction to being booed by the Cleveland Browns fans. He has since apologized, and Monken noted that his comments would not impact his decision for the team’s starter. He is hopeful that Watson can bounce back to the player that he was for the Houston Texans, noting that while the quarterback battle was close, it came down to the “entire body of work” for both players.
📈Fantasy Football Winners Of The Day
Malik Nabers No Longer In Non-Contact Jersey
Thank goodness for my fantasy football team (and New York Giants fans); Malik Nabers is trending toward being ready to start the NFL season. Nabers is working his way back from an ACL tear that ended his 2025 season very early, and today, he made a big step in the right direction as he practiced without a red non-contact jersey for the first time in NFL training camp. Nabers has the opportunity to be one of the biggest fantasy football steals from the NFL offseason if he is able to suit up for the Giants’ Week One matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on September 13th.
Jalen Hurts Gets Pass Catchers Back
Another big development for the NFC East was that both Devonta Smith and Makai Lemon returned to practice today. Both Lemon and Smith suffered hamstring injuries that have held them out of NFL training camp.
Both Lemon and Smith are expected to be ready to play for NFL Week One, meaning Jalen Hurts could be a massive fantasy football value after a down 2025 season.
📉 Fantasy Football Losers Of The Day
Panthers Backfield Looks to Be a 50/50 Split
Here lies the Jonathon Brooks bellcow hype. While it was fun to imagine Brooks coming back from an injury-riddled career and leading the Carolina Panthers backfield, Head Coach Dave Canales noted that barring fellow running back Chuba Hubbard’s health (who is expected back for Week One), the Panthers backfield will be a 50/50 split.
Woody Marks to Split Carries with David Montgomery
Yet another backfield split is leading to yet another fantasy football training camp loser. David Montgomery is reportedly expected to split carries with fellow running back Woody Marks. Many were expecting Montgomery to take on a bellcow role, but it is looking like he will once again find himself in a split backfield, similar to the situation he found himself in while with the Detroit Lions.
While this might tank Montgomery’s fantasy football value, Woody Marks is looking to be a fantasy football draft day steal, as he is being drafted as the RB43 despite being in a near 50/50 split.
🩼 NFL Training Camp Injury Updates - Questions Surrounding Ashton Jeanty’s Injury
When looking into an NFL training camp report, it is also important to stay up to date with all the injuries around the league and NFL Training Camp Live News.
Questions Surrounding Ashton Jeanty’s Injury
Last night, panic erupted in the fantasy football world (in addition to Raiders Nation) as Ashton Jeanty went down with what seemed to be a severe injury. Hours later, we received an update that it was simply a sprained ankle, as opposed to the ACL tear that some were anticipating (congrats to those who drafted Jeanty at a MASSIVE discount).
Even today, though, we are not sure of the severity of Jeanty’s injury, how much time he will miss, or if he will miss time at all. Even Defensive Coordinator Rob Leonard was not allowed to comment on the injury. Stay tuned for additional updates.
Other Notable Injury Updates

- Kansas City Chiefs G Trey Smith is being eased back into practice as he recovers from a hip injury.
- Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua remains sidelined with injury.
- New England Patriots P Bryce Baringer's injury is "serious enough" that the team will have to sign another punter.

- Pittsburgh Steelers DB Jalen Ramsey was activated off PUP list.
- Tennessee Titans DE Keldric Faulk is day-to-day with a shoulder injury.
