The very first kickoff of the NFL season, being an NFC East rivalry of Cowboys vs. Eagles on Thursday Night Football, is exciting enough to get things underway. However, it doesn’t end there with superstars like Saquon Barkley and CeeDee Lamb taking the field, just to name a few. That’s why we’re here with our NFL best bets for Thursday Night Football.

Since this will be how you kick off your NFL picks for Week 1, we’re here to help make your NFL predictions even more valuable with a guaranteed PrizePick Fantasy promotion!

NFL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets for Thursday Night Football, 9/4

First and foremost, while we’ll indeed wrap things up with an instant PrizePicks promo to help fans in Texas without legal sports betting, we’ll also share some top player prop lines given the targets of our NFL best bets for Thursday Night Football, which in this case is FanDuel Sportsbook.

With that out of the way, given that we have a 2,000-yard rusher, a master of the tush push, AND multiple 1,000-yard receivers littering the field, our options are virtually endless. That can end up making things even more overwhelming, which is why we’ve pinpointed our top spots to save you the research.

Those spots include a plus-money play, and we’ve also made sure to cover a player from each team. So, let’s fully break down how we’re getting our NFL picks for Week 1 underway.

Thursday Night Football Prediction for Cowboys vs. Eagles: Dak Prescott Over 1.5 Passing TDs (+120 at FanDuel)

First up is the road team, and as always, there has been no shortage of Cowboys news in the headlines. It’s also likely to be one of our best NFL predictions that comes as far more of a surprise.

That’s because not only did the Eagles allow the fewest yards overall last season, but also the fewest passing yards per game. However, that was helped by the fact that Philly got to face backup QB Cooper Rush in both games against Dallas last year. Now, starter Dak Prescott is back healthy and with an added weapon.

Prescott not only gets to throw to superstar WR CeeDee Lamb, but also to George Pickens now. That added weapon only increases his chances of keeping up his streak. Prescott has now thrown 2+ passing touchdowns in five straight games against Philly, including 3+ in four of those five games!

While three of those games saw him throw for 295, 347, and 374 yards as well, we still love the plus-money for a line at just 1.5 passing TDs. It’s one that we’ll see a 2.5 throughout the season for sure, and with Philly also a huge touchdown favorite, that also suggests Prescott will be throwing to catch up.

Even if one of them is a garbage-time, meaningless touchdown, we’re starting our NFL best bets for Thursday Night Football with Dak Prescott over 1.5 passing TDs (+120 at FanDuel).

Cowboys vs. Eagles Best Bet for NFL Week 1: AJ Brown Over 23.5 Longest Reception (-120 at FanDuel)

As promised, we’ve got a spot on the Philly side of things as well. When it comes to our NFL best bets for Thursday Night Football in that regard, our approach is with a superstar, but slightly different than the more common approach.

That would be the longest reception rather than receiving yards or total receptions. There are so many reasons for that, but before we dive in, this is really a “pick your poison” situation, as DeVonta Smith is also a fantastic option for this market. We’d prefer to not get burned that way, but we could even see them both hitting their prop line.

We’re sticking with Brown, as he finished last year with the fourth-longest average reception length in the entire NFL last year. That’s perfect when facing a Cowboys defense that tied for the most yards allowed per reception last season.

Sure, they activated Trevon Diggs off the PUP list, but expecting him at his best is difficult to imagine until at least a few weeks into the season. Even still, let’s not forget that the Dallas defense still has to worry about Devonta Smith, not to mention stacking the box against Saquon Barkley. Oh yeah - and no more Micah Parsons to pressure Jalen Hurts!

In total, AJ Brown had a whopping 21 receptions of 20+ yards last year, not to mention an average depth per target over 12 yards, also among the best in the NFL. With a 44-yard reception against Dallas in their first meeting last year, we’re adding to our NFL best bets for Thursday Night Football with AJ Brown’s longest reception over 23.5 yards (-120 at FanDuel).
