NFL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets for Monday Night Football, 11/17
When we last heard from the Cowboys, it actually wasn’t the aforementioned MNF game - it was their additions at the NFL trade deadline of Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets and Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals. As a defense considered the worst by many, those acquisitions were much needed.
However, are they enough to make them worth backing with your NFL best bets for Monday Night Football? While we wouldn’t say that those two guys are enough to make them a threat in January, they’re also facing one of the worst teams in the NFL. The Dallas D now gets to face a QB with 12 interceptions through nine games in Geno Smith.
On the other side of the ball, they’ve been able to at least hold their own at times thanks to the likes of Maxx Crosby, but still not enough for us to label it as an actual “strength.” Therefore, the only truly great unit in this matchup is the Cowboys offense. The question then becomes, how can we find value for our NFL best bets for Monday Night Football?
Monday Night Football Prediction for Cowboys vs. Raiders
As much as picking on the Dallas defense has been a strong approach this season, Las Vegas simply doesn’t match up in a way to provide value. Geno Smith has been the polar opposite of his resurgence in Seattle with the Seahawks, while rookie RB Ashton Jeanty has been what they’re relying on.
Well, as terrible as the Cowboys defense has been, it’s primarily through the air - they still have the seventh-best run stop win rate. Admittedly, that hasn’t always led to them finishing plays, but it’s enough to where it’s not our absolute favorite approach. If you absolutely insist on your NFL picks for MNF targeting the home team, consider Ashton Jeanty’s rushing yards prop.
As for our NFL best bets for Monday Night Football, we originally considered a pick that would put Dak Prescott’s name back in the MVP conversation. However, after digging a bit deeper, our NFL predictions for MNF focus on the guy lined up next to and behind him - Javonte Williams.
Cowboys vs. Raiders Best Bet for NFL Week 11: Javonte Williams Anytime TD (Add Player Pick ‘Ems at Sleeper)
When you first think of the Raiders defense, or the Raiders in general, for that matter, you likely first think of the elite tattoo-ed pass rusher. So, surely Las Vegas thrives against the pass, right? In some ways, yes, but in others, not so much. From an EPA/play perspective, they have the 10th-worst against the pass but surprisingly, the ninth-best against the run.
So, why would we be targeting the Cowboys' run game with our NFL best bets for Monday Night Football? As much as those metrics have helped us make the best picks possible, they aren’t everything. In terms of expectations translating to reality, the Raiders have given up far more points on the ground than through the air this year.
Their 12 rushing TDs allowed are the third-most in the league, while their 12 passing TDs allowed are the fourth-fewest. It’s 100% true that teams have not often had to keep throwing on Las Vegas this year, but ok, Dallas is expected to win this game as well. In other words, the game script should absolutely be a factor in any NFL best bets for Monday Night Football.
Lastly, we prefer this approach because the Raiders still rank in the top half of the league in terms of rushing YARDS allowed per game. For a more general approach, you could also consider going over Dallas’ team total. Even still, we have Javonte Williams anytime TD (use his Sleeper card) as the top pick from our NFL best bets for Monday Night Football.
