I’ll say it, the injury bug was not kind this weekend. Many players left the game due to injury at various points, and while some were able to return, others faced what could be season-ending injuries. Luckily for fantasy football managers, only the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans are on bye this week, which increases the number of options to replace these injured players.
NFL Week 9 Injury Report: Quarterbacks
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
Jackson lasted one offensive play before suffering an injury to the thumb on his throwing hand. As a result of this injury, he will be placed on IR and will potentially miss the rest of this season. With Tyler Huntley also leaving the game with a turf toe injury, the Ravens turned to Joe Fagnano for the remainder of the game, who also left the game less than 100 percent after taking a hit to the knee.
Kyler Murray, Minnesota Vikings
Murray is dealing with a hamstring strain that hampered him in the game last week. He’s currently not expected to play, which means Carson Wentz will get the start against the Bills.
Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns
Watson is dealing with a concussion and related symptoms, and he is unlikely to start this weekend per Ian Rapoport. Shaduer Sanders is expected to start in his place.
Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks
Darnold is dealing with a quadriceps injury and has officially been ruled out against the Cardinals. Drew Lock has been limited at practice as he deals with elbow soreness in his throwing arm, which may mean we see either a heavier dose of the rushing attack or Jalen Milroe.
NFL Week 9 Injury Report: Running Backs
Jeremiyah Love, Arizona Cardinals
Love reinjured his ankle in the second quarter against the Cowboys, and as a result, was ruled out for the remainder of the game. With Zonovan Knight suffering a concussion, the Cardinals turned to Tyler Allgeier, who turned in a career performance and is expected to be the main focal point of the rushing attack.
Cam Skattebo, New York Giants
Skattebo is dealing with a hamstring injury, and at this time it seems unlikely that he will play Sunday against the Eagles as he enters the weekend with a doubtful tag. With Tyrone Tracy on injured reserve, it seems most likely that Devin Singletary will get the start, with Greg Desrosiers Jr. as the next man up.
David Montgomery, Houston Texans
Head coach DeMeco Ryans stated this week that Montgomery is still week-to-week but did state that he has made some progress. That said, he will be out this Sunday against the Chargers. Woody Marks gets the nod yet again.
Kyle Monangai, Chicago Bears
Monangai returned to practice Friday in a limited fashion. As a result, he’s being listed as questionable. I would not get my hopes up, and as a Bears fan I’m not, but ideally he can return to action this week.
Brian Robinson, Atlanta Falcons
Robinson Jr. has been ruled out yet again as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. Expect another serious workload for Bijan Robinson.
Breece Hall, New York Jets
Hall is considered good to go and is expected to return to action next Sunday against the Chiefs. Braelon Allen has been a star while replacing Hall, so we could see a snap split on both players, making them both less than ideal fantasy options.
TreVeyon Henderson, New England Patriots
Henderson made a statement Friday that he’s dealing with an unusual medical situation that includes unexplained neurological symptoms. He is not expected to play at this time, and may be away from action until this is resolved. Rhamondre Stevenson should see a bump in snap count.
NFL Week 9 Injury Report: Wide Receivers
Garrett Wilson, New York Jets
Wilson suffered a concussion last week. He has not cleared protocol at this time and will be out this Sunday against the Chiefs. Adonai Mitchell becomes an interesting flex option as a result.
Michael Wilson, Arizona Cardinals
Wilson suffered multiple broken ribs during the 33-30 win over the Cowboys on Sunday. It remains to be seen if he will miss any time, so practice reports this week will be crucial for us to follow.
Christian Watson, Green Bay Packers
Watson has been limited at practice as he manages a broken rib, but all signs currently point to him being active this weekend. If he is unable to go, the rest of the pass-catching room will have to step up, as Watson is a crucial part of this passing attack.
Jordan Tyson, New Orleans Saints
Tyson is expected to be reinstated from the injured reserve as early as this week, and could even make his debut this coming weekend. This would be a bump for the Saints offense that lacks true receiving options past Chris Olave.
George Pickens, Dallas Cowboys
Pickens will be limited Friday as he deals with a hamstring injury. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer is hopeful that Pickens will be good to go this weekend, but there is a chance he will not be able to play.
Emeka Egbuka, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Egbuka returned to practice this week in a limited fashion. That said, he is being listed as questionable this weekend, and ultimately we won’t know his status fully until then.
A.J. Brown, New England Patriots
Brown is dealing with both knee and ankle injuries, which is keeping him out of practice. He will be inactive this weekend.
DeVonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles
Smith continues to miss practice with a hamstring injury. He’s being listed as out this week, and with Dontayvion Wicks also inactive, the passing attack will take a hit yet again.
Mike Evans, San Francisco 49ers
Evans has not practiced as he continues to deal with Achilles tendonitis and has been ruled out. With Deebo Samuel also not practicing, and Christian Kirk also out, it currently seems like Jordan Watkins, Brandin Cooks, and Jacob Cowing will be the receiving options for Brock Purdy.
NFL Week 9 Injury Report: Tight Ends
Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys
Ferguson is returning to practice on Friday, which shows he is making progress and could return to action this weekend. This would be a bump for the Cowboys offense, which will need to continue to attempt to carry this roster.
Terrance Ferguson, Los Angeles Rams
Ferguson has been limited in practice as he is attempting to return from the Injured Reserve for an ankle injury, but also picked up a hamstring issue during practice Friday. With Colby Parkinson also sidelined with a rib injury, Tyler Higbee and Davis Allen will likely see the majority of work at TE yet again.
Hunter Henry, New England Patriots
Henry was not spotted at practice on Thursday as he deals with a foot injury. If he’s unable to return to practice or play this weekend, it’s likely that Eli Raridon gets the start. Raridon has had some solid streaming weeks, including a 4-56-1 line against the Bears just two weeks ago, and should be a decent streaming option.
