Another great weekend in the books at the 2022 King’s Classic and Fantasy Football Expo! Is there anything better than a weekend full of fantasy football drafts? I’m not sure that there is! It was great seeing some members of the #FAmily, and I hope to see/meet more in August of next year! On Saturday, I took part in two fantasy football drafts – one fantasy football auction draft and one snake draft – with some heavy hitters in the fantasy industry, including fellow Fantasy Alarm folks! You can view the full draft boards here. Be sure to check out the fantasy football rankings and the latest fantasy football ADP as you prepare for your own drafts. Let's get into a breakdown of my teams from the 2022 King's Classic fantasy football auction and snake drafts.

Before getting into it, I want to give a massive shoutout to Bob Lung (@bob_lung on Twitter) for putting together another incredible weekend for a bunch of humans to live, eat, and breathe fantasy football. If you are thinking about attending the Expo but didn’t pull the trigger this year, consider this a sign to attend in 2023. Thank you again to Bob Lung, and everyone who played a part in making this event another massive success!

Here are the fantasy football experts who took part in the 2022 King’s Classic drafts: Michael Fabiano, Howard Bender, Pat Daugherty, Dave Richard, Curtis Patrick, Jeff Ratcliffe, Bob Harris, Andy Behrens, Jim Coventry, Kyle Stuebs, Britt Flinn, Lauren Carpenter, Dom Cintorino, Billy Muzio, Jody Smith, Bob Lung, and yours truly.

King's Classic Fantasy Football Snake Draft

Coming out of the 12-spot, I don’t know if I could have envisioned a better start outside of Joe Mixon and Alvin Kamara. Truth be told, I was pretty set on Saquon Barkley at the No. 12 pick, because I figured the likes of Kamara and Mixon would be off the board. Once Barkley and CeeDee Lamb were taken, Kamara became the pick in the second round. If the recent reports hold true and a suspension is more likely to come in 2023 than 2022, I got a massive steal at this spot. A.J. Dillon is a nice third running back with plenty of upside in this new look Green Bay offense. Then, later-round running backs Rachaad White and D’Ernest Johnson provide some depth at the position and could end up being fantasy football sleepers.

A three-headed monster at the wide receiver position with Mike Williams, Brandin Cooks, and Elijah Moore gives me plenty of floor at the position – but don’t rule out the upside either. Williams is the X-receiver on a pass-happy Los Angeles Chargers team that should play in plenty of divisional shootouts. Meanwhile, Cooks is the unquestioned WR alpha on a Houston Texans team that figures to be playing from behind. Moore has so much juice and should build upon his impressive rookie season with the New York Jets.

After those three, Skyy Moore is an upside play and based on the sounds of things, the Kansas City Chiefs want to get him the football in a myriad of ways. Well, in the seventh round, sign me up for that! Jakobi Meyers is a PPR dream, and should be in line for 100+ targets with the New England Patriots – which I love the floor at that point. Hopefully, Alec Pierce cements himself as the Indianapolis Colts' No. 2 receiver for Matt Ryan. Then, Baltimore Ravens wideout Devin Duvernay is a late-round flier at his best. Despite not taking my first receiver until the third round, is it possible that I nabbed four receivers that could get 100+ targets this season? I just might have done such a thing!

Hunter Henry and Brevin Jordan are solid tight ends that figure to have prominent roles in the end zone. Truth be told, I really wanted Cole Kmet, but he didn’t make it back to me. However, Henry and Jordan should give me enough at the position. Did I mention that I love the AFC West? Well, giving me Russell Wilson as my starting quarterback and Ryan Tannehill as my backup is fine. I love the value on Russ.

Overall, the core of this team is solid. I chased big-time upside in the middle rounds and if a couple of them pan out, watch out for this team! With Mixon, Kamara, Williams, Cooks, and Wilson at the helm, I like this team a good bit.

King's Classic Fantasy Football Auction Draft

I started off a bit quiet in the auction draft, but when value came about, I pounced. Before diving into the players, here is where my dollars were allocated by position:

Position

Money Spent (out of $200)

% of Budget

Quarterback

6

3%

Running Back

88

44%

Wide Receiver

83

41.5%

Tight End

23

11.5%

I didn’t want to spend too much at quarterback, though I was incredibly tempted to put up $12 for Lamar Jackson. However, Derek Carr at $5 was a dream for me as he very well could lead the league in passing attempts this year – and I wouldn’t be too surprised if happened. The Las Vegas Raiders quarterback will play in a lot of shootouts in that division. Plus, with a new scheme, would anyone be surprised if he led the league in passing attempts while putting up 4,800+ yards and 30 TDs? It could happen. I love Matt Ryan this year and for one dollar as my backup QB, I love it.

Now, here is where it gets interesting. I only have to start two running backs, so I put a lot of money into two good ones in Aaron Jones and Nick Chubb. After that, it’s a bunch of fliers on players, hoping that one or two pan out. Isaiah Spiller should be the Los Angeles Chargers' No. 2 RB behind Austin Ekeler and see a handful of touches every given week. From there, Isiah Pacheco and Tyrion Davis-Price are rookies who I like to emerge in some capacity – although it remains to be seen what role it will be.

Keontay Ingram is a dart throw, at best, while Gus Edwards is the sneaky one here. We all know that he has a solidified role in the Baltimore Ravens' rushing attack when healthy. If Edwards can prove he’s healthy when he gets out there, he could be the RB3 this team desperately needs. Dameon Pierce is the one that got away here. I should have kept going in on him, but I was getting low on money and wanted to hold out. After his breakout preseason performance on Saturday, my thought of Pierce being the Houston Texans' starter continues to grow. I hate that I don’t have him and, in hindsight, I would have taken the extra money I threw at Pacheco to ensure that I got Pierce.

What was the plan at wide receiver? Targets. Get the targets and the fantasy production will come. Hunter Renfrow at $13 could be a massive steal, as we all know that the Las Vegas Raiders slot receiver should have a sizable role in a Josh McDaniels offense. A.J. Brown has been lighting up Philadelphia Eagles training camp and Mike Williams, as mentioned above in the snake draft portion, is the X-receiver in an offense that heavily favors and features the position. Nico Collins is one of my favorite breakout candidates this year, and all of the beat writers in Houston Texans camp have highlighted his growth from Year 1 to Year 2. I talked about Alec Pierce earlier as well.

I nominated Travis Kelce as my first name to throw out in the action because I wanted the bar at the tight end position to be set. Well, Kelce went for $30 and I went after Kyle Pitts. The desire to acquire his services was very easily seen in the room. Fast forward a couple of “rounds” and I nabbed Pitts for $19, which was $11 less than Kelce, $4 less than Mark Andrews, and just $3 more than George Kittle. I was ecstatic to get Pitts for that price and would have easily gone up into the low-20s. Hunter Henry should score plenty of touchdowns and I wasn’t afraid to pay up for him. The New England Patriots tight end could be one of my three FLEX players while some of my rookies and Gus Edwards get up to NFL speed.

The floor of this auction team is lower than my squad in the snake draft, but the upside is immense – especially given some of the values. The Derek Carr-Hunter Renfrow stack could be sneaky good and a second-year breakout for Nico Collins would go a long way towards the depth for my receivers. Running back depth could be an issue, and is probably my biggest worry with this team.

After losing in the semi-finals in both formats last year, here’s to hoping that this is the year we bring a belt home in the 2022 King's Classic for Fantasy Alarm!
